Re: Gotta replace 4th/5th gear :(

Just wondering what kind of oil you guys have all been using I just switched over to sythetic this past weekend and I could'nt be happier I let her idle ran through the gears for a about 1/2 hour took a short trip then put it to the test 134 MPH have already put 300 miles + since now its just a joy to ride the action on my shifter is so silky smooth nothing but a quick flik and I'm gone my days of missed shifts are over I had thought about doing the VFR shifter thing but not now normal operating tempature dropped from 86 degrees celcius to 83 pretty significant

Glad Mike was able to steer you in the right direction. He is one of the most helpful (and colorful) people I have had the pleasure to work with. Sort of like the "Dan Kyle of the quarter mile . . .".

Ron Ayers has the gears for approx. $70 each. The big money is having someone do the labor of taking the trans out. If you do it, it will be cheaper, and you need to check the drum, forks, and gears around it, you will probably have to replace one other gear with it. But you really dont know what you will have to replace until you get in there and inspect everything. The teeth may not be rounded, it could be one of the other things or combo of these things.

Is this a terminolgy mistake or a different kind of gear being discussed? Interesting stuff non the less.

I have never used FBG, but have heard good feedback.

On the phone with SBM now. He told to check with Larry McBride who is in my area, and maybe be cheaper since I won't have to pay for shipping, and also that R&D does great work, but costly. He did say get in there and buy the new components then take it to Larry or call him back and send it to him and he can do it. He said I could call FBG also since they are more into the drag part, but he could certainly do the job if thats what I wanted. Very Very helpful man I thought. Thank you Abtech.
