I tried to go that route, too, and while you CAN get them from a bearing supply house, I found it was actually cheaper to buy direct from an online Honda dealer. YMMV.

Check out www.ronayers.com or www.servicehonda.com , they both have interactive parts pricing pages, and you can order online. The should BOTH be cheaper than your dealer. The last few times I've ordered, Service Honda was cheaper.

Is there a good place to get the bearings besides the local dealer?

Yeah I powder coated/polished my rims a few months ago and due to the high temps of the baking process you have to remove everything and I for safety's sake put all new bearings and seals in them. Good luck with it, ill try to get around to posting some pics of mine. Rubber side down

Yes you have to take them out, if you dont damage them, you can replace them. BUt while they are out, why not get new ones

How much are front & rear bearings, anyway?

Thanks!
I would say they should block off the axle hole on the rim before coating it because you don't want anything getting in there anyway but I'd err onthe cautious side and take them out and since they're out put new ones in because it won't hurt. Always easier to do it now with the rims off when you don't have to then later when you have to.
