Not unless you've got an armed escort. Call me next time you wander through. I hear there are some great sportbike roads in your home state, so we could work out reciprocal tour arrangements.

That said, it's my hometown and is a great place to live and/or raise a family so long as you're on the west end....

Believe me, I understand. I worked in a hospital for 6 years. We cut jokes that would've horrified families. The problem is, you MUST make sure this type of humor is between involved professionals and nothing more.

I agree, LTL.

FWIW, officer.com is not a restricted, LEO-only site. Security guards, corrections officers, reservist and auxiliary officers, geeked out wannbes, and even non-cops can register for those forums.

Some of this seeming insensitivity is simply a coping mechanism for the crap we see in this line of work, but again, it's not something I make a habit of sharing in a public way such as the way these dorks on police.com have.

Re: Post your Thoughts (Squid Related)

Okay, most of that was crap (both the original, and reply, and most of both sides of the argument):

1. Cops are generally held to a higher standard of morality than citizens. I don't think the original poster was a cop. If he was, he needs stress leave pronto: a. For posting on an open forum (there are plenty of closed forum LEO sites, where they verify employment in Law Enforcement) b. For what he describes and how he describes it, to the public...

2. The "cop" challenging the "medic" AND vice versa was lame and laughable.

3. I wish there was this much support from the motorcycling community for lobbying for our rights in the AMA. Nah, costs money, and the internets free...

4. The only thing worth reading, is something I was going to try to explain in fewer words, but "Quopper" for the most part got it right:

It's a shame that you feel disgusted by this thread - if that is the case then leave.

Obviously you are in no way related to LE and do not understand the EXTREME pressure that relates to the job. Maybe it is not right to toast a beer to an injured idiot, but is it right to go straight home to your family and freak out over the same injured idiot? Some pressures from the job have to be released with the defensive mechanism of "Black Humor". You have to understand that maybe you will never see more than one or two dead bodies in your lifetime, and they will probably all be in a casket or hospital bed. LEO's depending on where they work can see hundreds in a career, and very few of them will be "peaceful" looking. If LEO's can't find a way to release some of the pressure from these death's, by having a drink and minimizing the trauma, or by posting a thread and discussing it with others in an OFFICER FORUM, then YOUR biggest concern as a civilian should be trying to figure out if the officer that comes to your home to help you with a stolen bike report, is teetering on the edge of stress and nervous break-down, because he no longer has a way to release his pent up emotions, because some civilian on a forum told him he lacked integrity and was more disgusting than the described gore itself, and reeked of pure evil. Now tell me, this officer that came to help you, is he going to politely go about your stolen bike report, or is he going to flip out and shoot your cat because his nerves are so jumbled.

Bottom Line: until you have walked in one’s shoes, you have no right to criticize them. (And before you say it – yes these cops have walked in the shoes of the stunt bike riders, and if not in them, they have picked them up enough to pass judgment!)

I know, the truth is an ugly thing, but so is death by your own duty pistol, or forcing your "brothers and sisters" to shoot you. It seems "suicide by cop" has been catching on with Cops too....
