be shure to read up and talk to people b4 you get 1. they are very sweet and caring animals but are very stubborn when they are pups, even more than other dogs. i still would own another wam. even after this.

I would be having a chat to this friend of yours you got the dog from, probably didn't treat her right when she was a pup.
he would not abuse any animal for anything. he bought her for his son and his son did not want to spend time with her. he was going to keep her non the less until she eat about $600 worth of trees. thats how i got her.

Dog murderer. You have no right to take the life of a living, feeling individual. You abused that poor animal and infringed on it's personal space and territory. You deserved to be bitten.
Sorry PETA was not in the local phone directory when i was bleeding.

some breeds get a bad rap when they get popular due to mass breeding which tends to lead to in-breeding, witch turns out some rather interisting animals and gives more than pitts a bad name. remember back in the 70's when dobies were popular?

That sucks. It's a tough call, but you absolutely made the right decision. Imagine if that dog did that to a child.
not really a tough call just something that you don't exactly want to do.

Re: Had to put a dog down.

Sorry to hear it Hammer but you did the right thing.

When my Grandfather passed away, he left behind a stray rot that he had taken in. The dog had obvious mental problems but he kept it anyway. We kept the dog around for a couple of months trying to decide what to do but then the damn dog attacked my dad when he went to feed it. My dad still has nerve damage in his forearms from the attack and needless to say we put the dog down. There was no sorrow or remorse for that one but I know the feeling. I had to put down my 18 month old AmStaff last year and that was incredibly tough. She kept having uncontrollable seizures. They were completely random: from in the middle of the night to in the day when no one was home. She was not herself and was very defensive during the seizure and for hours afterward. We were concerned that she might bite when in this mode because she didn't recognize anyone around her and was scared. Otherwise, she was the sweetest pup you could want around. It's still tough remembering the day we had to do it. I held her in my arms when the vet administered the shot. We did the right thing though; she was suffering.

If you want to debate this, start another thread.

Hammer's had a rough time, no need to debate here.

Sorry dude. That sucks. It's a tough call, but you absolutely made the right decision. Imagine if that dog did that to a child.

My GF had to put down a mastiff that got overly protective of her about 2 years ago. It was a bad deal, but she knew it was the right move.

You could have sent that animal to a sanctuary for rehabilitation but instead you chose to take a life you had no right to take.

Re: Had to put a dog down.

I had a golden retriever/ chow mix that i loved had him for 3 years and he was a great dog then he got food agressive and i cant have that either I have a 5 year old daughter and she loved him too and he was good with her. then she was trying to play with him while he was eating and he growled at her. so for the next three weeks everytime he would eat i would go over to him and stick my hands in his bowl and pet him and just mess with him and he would snap at me and growl and when he did i smacked him and said no any other time he was the model dog...obediant, faithful, playful..just when he was eating. well at one point i was making good progress, he had stopped growling and snapping but i kept on it and that faithful day he bit the crap out of me and damn near took my thumb off so i promptly went inside and grabbed my gun and put him down before my daughter got home. then went to the hospital. that was 2 yrs ago and i finally started getting the numbness to go away in my thumb.

I feel your pain man but i dont regret what i did if he had bittin my little girl at all i would have lost my mind she was little enough back then that he could have gotton her right in the face.

I dont know what brought it out in him either had him since he was about a year old and i got him from a military family that was moving to Iceland and could not take him.

Without a doubt you did the right thing. Your family's safety must come first over a pet.
