Re: SURGERY on 5/29

Many of you know about the mega weight loss, those that don't, here's the skinny.

Long story, so I'll try to make it short and sweet.

2/01/01 - I weighed 550+ pounds and had the Gastric By-Pass surgery on this day.

5/20/03 - I now weigh 290 pounds. however, since I lost 200+ pounds I now have 20+ pounds of extra skin. No matter how much I work out, there is NO WAY I can tighten it back up or lose it. As follow up to the first surgery, the second part is to have a tummy tuck (remove the excess skin).

5/29/03 - Plastic surgery day. I'll be out of the hospital in a day or two, but it's gonna' take 4-6 weeks of recovery. No golf, no riding, no lifting, etc.

Click here for the story and before & after pics

For those that have the twisted minds: *

NO, I am not having a sex change...
NO, I am not getting a BOOB JOB... * *
NO, I am not getting 'little' TANK enlarged. *

Did I miss any? *

Anyway, in less than 10 hours, I am going to have one big ass tummy tuck. *For those of sick nature, they are going to remove 20+ pounds of excess skin. *I can't believe how many times someone has asked me 'So, how much are saying they are going to remove? *I know it sounds gross, but I am curious' * *I'll never be a swimsuit model, but I will finally have somewhat of a figure. *

After going from a size 64 waist to 48 (current), I am guessing I will be under 40 after my surgery. *With that said, not only will I be buying a bunch of new clothes, I am going to buy a new leather jacket and pants and possibly a new textile jacket as well. *

All I ask of you is this....Over the next 4 to 6 weeks, during my recovery, ride a few extra miles for Good Ole' TANK. *

Re: SURGERY on 5/29

Congratulations. You take it easy and recover. I'll ride a few extra ones for you. That's a cool story. Coming from someone who is battling weight, it's good to see someone succeed. I need to get back to exercising. While I was going through my divorce I lost a lot of weight, and need to stop myself before I put it all back on.

Good luck with the surgery. Heal up, and get back on as soon as you can.

Re: SURGERY on 5/29

May not be appropriate but, how did you get so large and why?

Proud of ya for dropping that weight. Strong willed person you are.

The surgery you had was the one where they pretty much take your stomach out of the digestive equation right?

Interesting story Tank!

Just curious, but why don't you have the surgery in the fall so you can recover over the winter instead of during riding season?

I ate too much, that's how I got that big. *No other reason, I just liked the food.

Yep on the surgery, I had the Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass.

Bake, living in Phoenix, AZ this kinda is our 'winter'. It's around 105 to 110 degrees so what little riding we do, is early morning/late evening. Even last year when it was 115+ I still rode to work and hit the canyons and it was HOT. Didn't really matter much to me, I just wanted to ride!

Re: SURGERY on 5/29

Hey Tank congradulations on losing all that weight, thats quiet an achievment! Just wondering were you still riding when you weighed 550lbs? you must have had your suspension beefed up a bit? Anyway hope all goes well with the surgery and your back out on the bike soon!
