I'm out of work.

I just got home now from my last day at work, as I type i guess I'm unemployed .

But not all is bad, I'm resigned cause I'm going to open my own workshop.
I get the keys to the factory tomorrow and will start to set it up with an office, hoists' benches etc etc.
I'm going to have a busy week and a half as I plan to open on the 3 april.

I could do with any luck fellow members can give me.

Re: I'm out of work.

I'm a mechanic, so I'm going to set up a workshop from an empty factory.

My aim is to have it looking like a race garage when I'm done, you know what I mean, all nice and tidy and clean, not everywhere like most mechanic's workshops.

Re: I'm out of work.

Just a gripe.
I have been employed at the job I just left for over 7 years, although a new boss took over 21 months ago, I have run the business for him, opening up at 7.30, cause he likes too come to work at 9.30-10 am even up to 3.00 pm (oh well, it's his place)
I've never been late and have taken about 2 sickies since he has been there and all of them i have had doctors certificates (one of them to watch the Moto gp practice a few weeks back, but I was a little sick)

I left today with just a handshake and the wages that were oweing to me, no bonus no drinks nothing.

Re: I'm out of work.

Then you made the right decision to leave. No one is gonna look out for your best interests except yourself. I learned that the hard way - now I'm a freelance software developer.

And remember, even a pat on the back once in a while may make you feel good but it wont pay the rent. My perspective changed a lot when I became self-employed, I suspect yours will too.

Re: I'm out of work.

Just goes to show how "critical" your services where to the company. Whether you where there or not, made no difference.
You made the right choice in my opinion. Your much better off working for yourself. It won't be easy at first but I'm sure things will work out for you.

Good Luck

Re: I'm out of work.

Keep your head up and keep moving forward dude. Don't give in to idle time and thinking about the past. You've got a lot of work ahead you, but like others have mentioned I think you'll be happier in the end.

As far as leaving and 'don't let the door hit ya', you are not alone my friend. Businesses have changed and it's not as personal as it used to be. Businesses are laying off employees with 29 years in without hesitation, as a matter of fact probably because they HAVE 29 years in (higher salary, etc.).

And I'll bet if you check in with buddies at work later on, they WILL say how f%cked up things are now versus when you were there, and how the Boss man is now pulling his hair out.

Good luck
