race bike or grattan?

I have a serious problem..

I got a chunk of change back from taxes. I had planned on spending the money on a race bike of some sort. Today I read a few of the threads in the Grattan forum. It got me thinking. It seems like tons of fun and would be an event I would never forget. The problem is, my wife is being mean and won't let me have both. So, what would you choose? The biggest problem with Grattan is going to be transportation, not sure how I'd get there. I wish I could make up my mind on something for once in my life.

Re: race bike or grattan?

In the long run a race bike would cost you a whole lot more money. I vote for Grattan.
You can always spring for a race bike down the road, in any case.

'nother vote for Grattan here. SMTBs is looking for someone to travel with. Besides, if you're going to get into racing, you need a trailer first, right?

Re: race bike or grattan?

Hook up with SMTB and come to Grattan. It's only a couple hundred bucks vs a couple grand, plus the trailer, truck, spare everything, etc

Re: race bike or grattan?

Grattan will be money well spent! You can get a race bike anytime, but how often do you get a chance to have a blast on the track with your fellow .orgers?

Re: race bike or grattan?

According to Websters latest collegiate edition:

Racebike: noun. Large hole where money is thrown and subsequently set on fire.

Come to Grattan. I'm certain the experience will help you make a much more informed decision on the selection of a racebike.

Re: race bike or grattan?

well, I've been thinking about this all day. I had an ex500 all set to buy tomorrow but now I think I'm going to forget that. The 300 or so dollars to race at Grattan isn't what's stopping me, it's getting there and the cost to rent a truck. If I can work something out, maybe with SMTB, I'd love to go. At least I won't have to worry about taking time off from work. Being my own boss sure is nice!

Re: race bike or grattan?

Maybe all of us in the North East can work something out? Like a gather point and then rent something big Nomad and me are already working on something. I can have a 4 bike trailer easily. Just need a bigger truck to tow it.

If only I could figure out a way to get through the whole season on one set of Michelins, it really wouldn't be TOO bad...

Is a paradigm worth 20 cents?
