Wow I missed the party yesterday! Great posts people.
Nice to see a rally here.
So it appears that that you want less enforcement of the rules. If that is what is wanted that can be tried but I have two questions. The second question will come later, but here is the first question. With less enforcement means that at times people are not going to be happy with what others have to say. Is that something that people are willing to accept? What someone consider banter, funny, etc. someone else may not.
Can all in this thread actually handle that? That includes, Jazzy, FJ, Ox and the rest. Can every say yes or no that they can actualy handle that?
I understand offences need to be taken on a case by case. As a thread unfolds, it usually becomes apparent who the antagonist is as trouble erupts. As stated many times above, the invested members of this site are adults with a good deal of tolerance and patience. A thick skin.
This shouldn't be confused with spirited arguing, or calling someone out on something. I remember
putting some very blunt posts out there and me thinking someone would be offended. A couple were. But most of us understand that bladeracer is something of a legend, although he would never admit that. With a bit of investment in this site and his posts, it quickly becomes apparent how extremely knowledgeable he is. I give him all the leeway he wants, because he doesn't mean one shred of ill will, and he's normally right.
I'd like to put a word in for the ladies that used to be regular posters. I've since talked to two of them, and both said they weren't happy with the response to their complaints of tasteless sexual posts directed at them. Usually a gender insult. So guess what? They leave. I like having female members here, and I think it's ok to be a little more strict about enforcing those types of cases. We claim to be adults, and most of us are gentlemen as well. But hurling out a gender based insult after you've had a couple beers, or meds, or whatever some people do, isn't ok.
Rules are rules, I get that. But we're not in a vacuum, this is far from a perfect world.
I wouldn't want the job of mod or admin, and I appreciate how delicate it can be at times. That said, I would like to give credit where it's due and extend a tip of the hat to them for being the enforcers when it is
needed. I'm sure a lot of decisions made about banning or discipline were good for the forum in the long run.
We have a great kickstart here, let's roll with it!
Party on Garth!!!
