I(don't) wanna be a rockstar

When I was a teenager I wanted nothing more, my goodness they are dropping like fly's. If that seems harsh... they made it that way I just call it as I see it. A riding buddy of mine and I were talking of this very same thing years ago when a guy from Seattle (maybe.. big controversy) did the same. Keep on with the depressing lyrics and it puts you in a bad space. Not to say that the songs don't have genuine roots, but damn.. flip a coin, there is eventually another side.
Chester Bennington
Chris Cornell
Kurt Cobain
Scott Weiland
Bradley Nowell
The list goes on but these guy's are all from a very recent era in music... I liked them all but there was a dark side to message they conveyed. (Sad)

Beat's me why people want to get high, tried it once in the 60's ,didn't like the sensation, never did it again, might get you high while your taking it ,then comes the "down", pretty much like alcohol really, used to do that as well (years ago), but don't touch that at all now, no high's or lows now and the happiest I've been in my life, can't even remember what a headache feels like

Re: I(don't) wanna be a rockstar

I spent most of my teenage years getting wasted, I still think it's a miracle I survived. Haven't taken any substances for over 30 years now, I just decided one day that it was time to grow up and start becoming a responsible member of society.

Re: I(don't) wanna be a rockstar

It's kinda odd with who has left us in the music industry by suicide.

Add Michael Hutchance from INXS. Just a quick name I came up with, while thinking of Cornell and Bennington, as you mentioned. All 3 hanged themselves I believe.

Of those, I think Cornell had an amazing voice. Add Layne Staley from Alice In Chains too, OD I think, but grunge era nonetheless.

I come from a heavily influenced 80's hard rock era. VH being my primary favorite. I play drums in a VH cover band, and would have to say, I'm really amazed both DLR and EVH are still alive. With the amount of success, troubles, and EXcess, I'm surprised they're not dead.

Glad you mentioned Layne Staley Ian, he was open about his struggles and how he was a slave to heroin...lots of good reads about his meagre existence at the end of his days, sad beyond belief, I saw Alice in Chains back in the day and that voice was awesome even though you could see his pain.....as for me, I still enjoy a few bevvies from time to time, but long gone are the days getting hammered thank God.....

I saw AIC a handful of times as they opened for VH back in 91. Their sound wasn't my thing back then, but they played great each time I saw them.
