Re: Garage Parking at Work

I am soooooooo pissed right now. I just got a letter stating that the montly parking fees for the garage will be increased to $60/month. That is such BS. There is free street parking but the neighborhood isn't the safest and I know waayyy too many people who have had their cars broken into.

They know there is no where else to park and people will pay it. Every year they increase it, when is it going to stop!

Thanks for letting me vent!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Garage Parking at Work

That is so screwed!!! I bet this is some social engineers way of 'encouraging' people to use Public Transportation. What a bunch of... %^()[email protected]&#036(^)(@$

Sometimes a letter from a lawyer threatening a class action suite for price gouging or... discrimation.. or something (where is Shakedown Jackson when you really need him?) gets some possitive action.

I'd be hopping mad too!

Re: Garage Parking at Work

I paid less than that for a small storage unit at one of those storage places and I had 24/7 access to it and could lock it.

That blows. They now they got all of ya and will just keep tightening the vise. Get everybody together and get a petition or just have everybody refuse to pay.

Re: Garage Parking at Work

The cheapest I've found at Tribeca, in downtown NY is $17 a day. People that live there pay $800 a month. They are parking Ferrari's for $800 though.

Re: Garage Parking at Work

How big is the increase? What was it last year?
Not to sound like a jerk, because we all like to pay the minimum possible, but consider the following:
The parking company is in business to make money. They have electric bills (electricity prices have more than likely increased), they have property taxes to pay (taxes have more than likely increased), they have employees to pay (probably union, and the union probably strongarmed for at least a 15% increase in pay), they have upkeep expenses, and the list will include more expenses than that, all of which have probably increased.
That's the way the economy goes around. Business expenses rise, so consumer expenses must also.
Now if it is a massive raise, like double or something, then there may be a complaint. But you may be surprised at how much the parking company's expenses have raised.

Re: Garage Parking at Work

I have calmed down a bit.....I was just venting this morning.

Plus I didn't mention that they tore down the other parking garage so now we are down to one for the entire Med school and surrounding buildings.

The garage is owned by the University (where I work) so no chance in them picking up the tab..lol

Again thanks for letting me vent! I feel better.

We have a 'bike' area to park in the garage so we don't take up stalls. Actually when I ride in, my bike can fit through the barriers and I don't have to use my key card at all. But if the weather would hold out I could ride in and only pay when needed.

The parking services did call me an offer me a 1/2 price lot that they are opening up 2 blocks away. So today I am going to go and check it out, see if its bike safe.

woo hoo!
