Anyone work with Delrin

Or any other frame slider material? I have an idea/concept, and would like some input.

Re: Anyone work with Delrin

I don't think that making an entire frame out of the stuff is a good idea...........

Re: Anyone work with Delrin

I've worked with it some in college. You gotta be kinda careful with your feed rates when you machine it.

I just got a microscope yesterday with the linear gear for the rack and pinion focus made of delrin. I thought it was a pretty trick idea.

Another forum I belong to has been having a discussion about whether or not Delrin is good as a slider material. One member has a business making sliders, and doesn't care for Delrin. Not that Delrin is terrible, but apparently it's a harder material, and therefore tends to transfer more of the impact to the frame and tends to break (off) quicker than other materials.

Not sure what other specific materials are used for sliders, though.

Re: Anyone work with Delrin

Yeah, Delrin is pretty hard.

You can check out UHMW, it's less rigid than Delrin. This was the final material we chose in our project for a bunch of reasons, including cost.

Edit: Moved to off topic:general, General is for "general" Honda motorcycles.
