Far Cry

Anyone playing it? I got into it hard about three weeks ago, after downloading the demo. This game's beautiful, immersive, and the most fun I've had playing a video game in a long time. It took me a little over a week to finish the full version, on a medium difficulty setting, and I'm replaying it on the hardest. No worries, playing doesn't eat into my riding time, because I either do it at work, or late at night after work.

The environment reminds me of Myst... but much more detailed, and rendered in real time.

Man... that looks great. I've got to buy a new computer, if I tried to load that I swear my computer would laugh at me!

Re: Far Cry

What hardware are you running it with and do you get all the bells and whistles? Which resolution? I've been planning to try that game but my XP 2800/Radeon 9200 is propably not quite enough. The sreenshots look amazing and that's what most reviews are saying too...

Re: Far Cry

At work, I run it on my eMachines M6805, 3000+ AMD64, 1GB RAM, 7200RPM 60GB drive, and 9600/64MB GPU overclocked from 300/200 to 435/235, at native 1280X800 resolution, with all the settings maxed out. The AMD64 can also be overclocked, but it's not stable in combination with an overclocked GPU.

At home, it's a Dell 400SC, 2.8P4HT, 1GB RAM, 74GB Raptor (this drive, by the way, in unbelievably fast - XP Pro install from scratch in 9 minutes), and 9600/128MB GPU also overclocked (at work, so I don't have the numbers), again, with all the settings maxed out.

I transfer my save games bewteen the two using a thumbdrive

Re: Far Cry

The limiting factor is your 9200. It's not a DX9 part, which Farcry really wants.

Be fast or be last.

Re: Far Cry

i have played and beat it. the ending is a little disapointing

hint - to save a game at a place other than a checkpoint. press ~ then tab through until you find save

What did you think of it, especially with all those wild pigs running around, that you could take out with specialized weapons, or even jeeps/hummers?

"Mmmm, virtual roadkill."

I think that the ending leaves the game open for a part two, in the same fashion as the Jurassic Park movie series.
