What kind of music do you listen to?

I've noticed that there is a very diverse group of people here. So I was wondering what kinds of music each of you likes.

I'm sure I'll be the only Jazz fan here. And no, I don't mean that candy cane garbage you hear on FM radio. Real Jazz, the older stuff, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Ornette Coleman, and so on.

I also listen to other forms of music, but not as much.

Though currently I'm thoroughly enjoying a couple of Widespread Panic albums.

So howza bout it?

Re: What kind of music do you listen to?

Jazz (candy cane garbage and old school stuff), clasical, pop, rock, just about anything but rap, metal, or punk. Just looked up Widespreed Panic, and though they're no Rush , I think I'll have to pick up some of their stuff.

I'm not even supposed to be here. I'm just "Crewman Number Six." I'm expendable! I'm the guy in the episode who dies to prove how serious the situation is! I've gotta get outta here!

Re: What kind of music do you listen to?

Pretty much anything goes with me. I'll pass on hardcore alternative or hardcore rap... I tend to stay away from anything with lyrics like, "Kill your dog, kills your dog, be satan, be satan".

Lately I have become old and am into Country. Yeah, I said it now move along.

I'll take classical, jazz, blues, R&B (new or old), Opera when I'm on a plane 'cause it tunes out all the screaming children and puts me to sleep... Having said that, my first album I ever purchased was Run DMC followed up with my old collectoin of Public Enemy. Diverse?

I didn't really mean to be insulting by calling it candy cane garbage. It's just a natural reaction that I've assumed after so many people in response to me saying I like Jazz will say something along the lines of, "oh, I really like Kenny G too". Ugh...........

I've been a big fan of Phish for several years, so I think I naturally/accidently discovered Widespread Panic because of them. If you dig the jam bands like Allman Bros., Phish, etc., Panic is definitely a must hear. I think they're better than both of those groups personally. But like those bands, their live material is lightyears better than the studio fluff.

If you're really interested in them, I highly suggest their 3 disc live set called Live In The Classic City. Good stuff.

And no, they're certainly no Rush(though I've got a soft spot in my ear for Geddy and the boyz).

Not to worry, I knew exactly what you were talking about, I hear that all the time, except I actually do listen to Kenny G (most likly a sympton of playing a sax in the high school jazz band way back when! yep I was/am a nerd)

Looks like I need to browse on over to BMG and look for that 3 disc set, thanks for the sugestion Mo Noyz

Re: What kind of music do you listen to?

I'm in tuning mode as the competition season has started. So it's mostly Jazz right now, Junior Wells, Claire Marlo, Michael Ruff, Jude. The other day I was driving with my wife and she asked if I was depressed. I was surprised and asked why she thought so, and she told me the music I've been listening to is more mellow recently. I'm usually listening to 3 Doors Down, Queensryche, Tesla, etc. Rather than explain it's work related, I managed to get Memorial Day weekend @ VIR.

Re: What kind of music do you listen to?

I listen to just about anything....however you can keep your Gangsta Rap. I suppose it all depends on the mood I'm in, or want to be in. Music is my way of venting when I'm mad or getting happy when I'm a little down. Music is what lifes all about.
