What is your least favorite task to do at work

As I said in Alex's thread, mine is designing little printed circuit boards to test my company's electronic components. Luckily I rarely have to do it. (This time I did it in AutoCAD and I'll let a subcon translate it, it was much less irritating)

The main reason is the software, PCB design programs are normally written with inputs from electrical engineer types, who don't know **** about a real CAD program, and lack the precision I'm used to in mechanical modeling programs. They remind me of drawing in word, or Visio at best.

This little project also needed input from the UK and someone in IL, design by group in different time zones is also a PITA.

So let's hear 'em, when do you earn your money the most?

Definitely remodeling a shitty 100 year old farm house. Trying to get things lined up in a room that settled over 3 inches in one corner really sucks. We mostly deal with new construction, nice level floors, square walls, and studs that are actually 16 OC. I really hate oldass houses!

Heh, my uncle is a contractor in Utah, and he says he has lost money on most remodels he's done since there's always some hidden problem. He won't take them anymore...of course I'm sure if business got slow...

Teaching my 'users' to do something new/different. God forbid that something in the IT industry changes, of course you would expext them to understand that, working for a software copmany and all. I hate 'users'.

I'd have to say patient's covered in poop are among the least favorite things to deal with here at work.

Hmm...PCB layout is one of the fun tasks for me at work. Not so fun would be the hours of reviewing ECOs.

There isn't too much I don't like about my job but if I had to pick one thing in particular it would be having repair something the soemone has already "fixed" on there own..... oh and I really hate anything that has to do with hydraulics, that oil is nasty when its all over you.

I don't kill flies but I like to mess with their minds. I hold them above globes. They freak out and yell, 'Whoa, I'm way too high!'

Re: What is your least favorite task to do at work

Since I don't deal with people covered in poop... I'd have to say my worst thing is ANYthing that is mundane, repetitive and unchallenging. I can't stand doing expenses, forecasting, billing etc. Repetition and monotony drive me insane. Repetition and monotony drive me insane.

Re: What is your least favorite task to do at work

I don't particularly like showing up, but seeing as I have to then the next worst thing is documentation, my current comapny is so document heavy, I'm a SW engineer and I've probably spent maybe a month total actually coding from the last 2 years at this place, granted we make safety critical stuff to control and drive trains but FFS enough with the doco already... I guess it wouldn't be so bad if I got to document and then code, but it's just been doco, doco, doco...

it doesn't matter though, I'm leaving soon...

Re: What is your least favorite task to do at work

we have this monthly budget for all the engineering projects we are deploying. Well, we are responsible for forecasting what each job will spend on a month to month basis, and we have to forecast this with an accuracy of +/- 10%... And our yearly review looks as this as a basis for how well you do.

well, its impossible, contractors charging thousands when its least expected. Weird charges hitting at in-opportune times, it just never works out.
