Re: This sucks...

That sucks. Never heard of him, but no more or less tragic than anyone else getting killed over there...

Agreed, but the path he took in life that led him there is a bit out of the ordinary. It's not like he signed up with the military just to get college funding.

Re: This sucks...

True, what he did was surely noble. War does not discrminate intentions though.

Re: This sucks...

Oh ****, now I remember this guy. He was all over the news when he joined up with his bro. He was a truly amazing person it sounds like.

Very sad indeed. We lost one of our best.

Re: This sucks...

holy crap! I can't believe it. His story inspired me and I felt like he was a true role model. A man who's actions spoke volumes, his courage and selflessness were unmatched. I put the #40 on my trackbike in his honor. There have been many times I've had to make a tough decision and I thought, What would Pat do?

My condolences to his bride who didn't get any time with her husband, and his brother still in Iraq as well as the rest of the Tillman family.

Or Rossi for that matter. Isn't that the sad truth.

Re: This sucks...

I rememember when he first decided to go, I had and still do, have the utmost respect for someone like that. There's not too many athletes that would sacrifice not only millions of dollars but ultimately their life for what they belive is their duty to protect/serve America. He is a true hero in my mind.

Re: This sucks...

He was a different breed. He actually went to college for an education and was too small for the NFL. He wasn't drafted, but invited to try out for the Cardinals. He arrived at tryouts on a bicycle. He made the team and became a starter and standout safety in the league. When he was up for a contract, he didn't have an agent squeeze the team, he wanted to play for the team that gave him a shot and made his own fair deal on a handshake. Just when he was about to hit it big, he had other teams making him offers, he told the Cardinals if htey want him to play there he will, 9/11 occured and he picked up his brother and drove out of state to a recruiting office where no one would know him and enlisted. The world would be a much better place with more people like him, but sadly he's gone.

There's admiring talent and admiring character. It's rare enough when the two are contained in the same person.
