Re: Note to self....

Telephone wire carries enough electricity to make your teeth hurt

Don't ask me how I know this...

Re: Note to self....

Yeah, you don't want to be holding the bare wires when you get a phone call, that's for sure.

Re: Note to self....

Yep, let's just say the the old 9V battery test should not be attempted on telephone lines

I didn't know that about phone lines, guess I'm lucky. Sure do appreciate you testing that out though.

Re: Note to self....

I was re-running some telephone wire in one of our rooms. Had the one end hooked up, the other still needed to be stripped. Accidentally touched both wires to my teeth. YOWSER! Still kinda numb, after like 2 hours

Re: Note to self....

oh yes, quite a shock. Remember back in the late 80's when everyone was unscrewing the phone cap to make phone calls (exact procedure forgotten)? I got shocked several times, but good.

Hurts too.

Be fast or be last.

Re: Note to self....

I've done the same thing, I've only stripped phone wires with my teeth once, happened to be when someone called, it's about 70 volts , oh and don't ever stick a monitor cable in your mouth when the monitor is plugged in...don't ask me how I know that one

Re: Note to self....

yeah, ringing voltage varies depending on how far from the CO/POI you are...

They had to actually 'ring' the bells back in the day and that takes some juice!

VEE DUBB in da house... representin deutchland!

Re: Note to self....

I 'm with ya!

I rewired all of the phones in my house a couple of years ago - I was really surprised at how much those little wires carried

Shut up brain or I'll stab you with a Q-tip!

The ringing generators are 80v AC if memory serves...local loops (line lengths) vary the power...

Luck favors those who are prepared.
Are you smokin that stogie or is it smokin you?

Re: Note to self....

ummmmm, you guys do realize that telephones are hooked up to huge banks of batteries, right?

I don't suggest pissing on an electric fence, either.... no I wouldn't know but I sure can guess.

If you never try anything new, you'll miss out on many of life's great disappointments.
