How I spent my Thursday Night / Saturday Morning.

Pressure Washers rock.

I started on the Thursday night, then had to finish up this morning. These pics are from the work I did Thursday night, after it had dried. I finished the rest this morning. This is ~15 years of grime. (Did the picnic table too.)

The workshop/shed out back will be next.

(This is at my old house, which I am currently renting out.)

Re: How I spent my Thursday Night / Saturday Morning.

Had my 1st experience w/a power washer a couple of summers ago. Did a large, stuccoed backyard wall in preparation for repainting (removing old, peeling paint and dirt). It IS a very cool tool, but you could really hurt someone with one of those bad boys!

Re: How I spent my Thursday Night / Saturday Morning.

thanks a million Conq... ive been pondering the idea of doing my front porch and driveway (both concrete) as well as a patio out back. after seeing your results im convinced this is the way to go.

did you use gas/electric ? and how many psi... ? there is a store near me that rents them all shapes and sizes, i just wanna know the best way to go, my fear was ruining things with it.

I don't kill flies but I like to mess with their minds. I hold them above globes. They freak out and yell, 'Whoa, I'm way too high!'

Re: How I spent my Thursday Night / Saturday Morning.

This is just a little electric 1200PSI one. I think they go for about $99 at Lowe's.

Conq, make sure you seal that puppy up!! Because if you don't it will look like the "before" pic in just a few short months!

I'm getting ready to do mine. Over 400 sq. ft. with two full stairways(one 8 ft., the other 4ft.). Gonna take about 12 to 14 hours to do the whole thing. Thanks for the reminder.

Re: How I spent my Thursday Night / Saturday Morning.

We're going to get a bigger, gas powered one now I think, since we like this one so much.

It works good for cleaning up the dirt bikes too.

Mo Noyz,

Yeah, this took me about 6.5 hours total. If it ever stops raining, and dries up, I'll be sealing it up.

Don't worry about messing anything up. 1200psi is fine. Mine is a gas powered 2100psi that I actually kick back to 1900psi to do my deck. Any more pressure and it tends to chew the wood up really bad(splinters galore!!). But for what you're doing, I wouldn't go any lower than 1200psi.

Re: How I spent my Thursday Night / Saturday Morning.

When I was in the swimming pool biz we used pressure washers to clean algae out of pools that needed draining in the springtime. Strips paint real well too if you're not careful I used a 5,000psi gas powered(it was a Honda ) once that would cut into the concrete

Yeah, you know, my neighbor turned me onto a great trick last year. Most people use a paint brush and paint the sealer on. Well this guy used a pump sprayer and said it cut his time by about two thirds. And it looks fantastic. I'm going to give it a try this year. I'll use a brush where the deck meets the house, but I'll spray the rest.

If it's a one day project, and you don't really think you'll ever have a use for it again, just look in the yellow pages under "tool rental", or whatever. It's quite a bit cheaper this way, and you don't have a useless anchor to move from house to house Although $99 is pretty cheap!

A Honda one, right? The only problem (or not) with the gas ones is noise.

edit: side note: if storing said unit outside, be absolutely certain it is drained of ALL H2O if exposed to temps below freezing.

This isn't the one we have, but it's an electric, 1400psi, for $98

Re: How I spent my Thursday Night / Saturday Morning.

This is the one I have (below is link) I really like it! My parents got the smaller one, but this one you really have to be careful on...with the cutting tip you can slice yourself pretty quick and easy.

A friend of a friend was cleaning his home rain gutters, when he was coming back down from the roof he put the sprayer (not mine, his own) in his back pocket of his jeans....when he was moving down the ladder it went off blasting a hole in his leg, and filling his calf area with H2o. He was rushed to the hospital, and is ok now...but man that was scary. His leg looked like a water baloon.
