UPDATED: Bad Week: So where exactly does 3rd gear go again ??

car: 1992 Saab 9000, 2.3 Non-turbo
ok in a nut shell here is my situation... about 1 week ago my car started intermitently popping out of second gear when i let off the gas at low RPM's, very randomly this would occur and i didnt think anything of it because i never ever had any problems with shifting or anything transmission related... today on the way to work i downshifted to second and the shifter started vibrating rapidly, i then shifted to third and that was it, the front wheels locked and i threw the clutch in and rolled off the side of the road... car stalled, i played around with the shifter which was now in the neutral position and it wouldnt go into any gear at all so i held in the clutch and restarted the engine with no problems and tried shifting still with no result... eased out the clutch and heard gears grinding and the car kinda moved forward so it sort of stuck in between gears ?! i shut off the car and looked underneath and saw it pouring out all of the transmission fluid from the center /rear of the engine area. i am in work now but had the car towed home... i dont even know what to look at first, does anyone have any ideas ? im sure its not going to be cheap and its not going to be easy to fix.... well i guess i know what i'm doing this weekend

I don't kill flies but I like to mess with their minds. I hold them above globes. They freak out and yell, 'Whoa, I'm way too high!'

Sounds like you either blew a seal, or blew out the side of the tranny. Outside of that, it could be a million other things that could've gone wrong. Go to the boneyard and buy another tranny(if you can find one). Probably the most cost effective way to go at this point

Re: Bad Week: Any "proud" Saab owners / Transmission Specialists out there ???

well i got my "new" transmission so the install has begun.... here is a picture update of my progress..... (aka: an excuse to come in the house to suck up some AC)

and yes im stuck working in the driveway because thats where AAA dropped the car it it doesnt move an inch due to the cluster F going on inside the transmission.

....more to come

had to drop the sub frame , not cool but in about 2.5 hours i got it all out, now i am going to begin the reassembly.... dont you love when all the bolts are just about identical... off by just a few threads or so.... man do i have alot of bolts

PiC#3: not only was there a whole but there was two holes !!! when tilted it sounds like someone filled the inside with B-B's, whoops... looking forward to splitting the case to see how much damage i really did.

I'd highly recommend replacing your clutch, pressure plate and throwout bearing, and resurfacing your flywheel. You might as well do it now instead of having to do all this again in 2 weeks

I'll be putting a call in to the EPA so they can come over and clean-up after you.

Look at it this way, you really don't "need" the cage until maybe October, right?
