Lance Armstrong, worlds toughest athlete

Good read from ESPN.com I voted for him all along the way but it hardly mattered. He dominated the voting, among mostly Americans of all people. I can't believe in a country that largely doesn't appreciate the discipline, pain, and skill it takes to be a champion in this sport, that he was voted worlds toughest athlete. Amazing guy...

I admire that man for his iron will. That kind of focus will get otherwise mediocre people to the top of their game.

He still claims that chemotherapy was the hardest thing he has ever done. Including all his tours...

Based on people I've watched go through cancer (or for that matter burn or spinal injury treatment), I don't think there should be any doubt. A tour isn't hard when compared to medical problems that last for months and months.

As much bicycle riding as I have done, that just makes me really really frightened of cancer and chemotherapy.

Yeah, one beat every OTHER second! In the article they say it's 32.

Another great champion in cycling named Miguel Indurain (also won 5 Tours De France in a row) had the lung capacity of 3 normal human lungs. You have 2, I have 2, he had the capacity of 3! He had a resting heart rate of 28. He could go from his max heart rate to his resting heart rate in 5 MINUTES! Incredible recovery time.

I'm sure some of you here have read his book, "It's Not About the Bike". If not, think about doing so - I thought it a great read!
