Funny Ricers

So I'm watching some ricer show on the Spike channel (they featured a $44k Toyota Celica that put out a whopping 160hp! ).

Anyway, they are showing all these front-wheel-drive ricers at the dragstrip, and many have wheelie bars.

I seen that too and was thinking it had to be for "looks"

Re: Funny Ricers

I'd guess it's in order to keep the front end loaded as opposed to preventing the wheelie that can't happen.

Re: Funny Ricers

It's like a reverse wheelie bar that prevents the front end from coming up on that massive acceleration. Even front wheel drives have the ass end dip considerably. This is supposed to prevent that. Does look a little funny though.

TRUCKS! is awesome! I TIVO that show all the time. Sometimes it's a letdown, but usually he does cool stuff and the vast majority of it follows the "form follows function" rule.

Re: Funny Ricers

I watch the Spike morning lineup pretty much every weekend. Some good shows, and Danica is a great hostess.

I not only found it amusing the hosts statement of comparo to a mild mannered V6 but that (in typical true ricer style) only about 8-10k$ of that dosh was on parts that DID anything for the car, most of it was on bodywork and crap..and stickers, which are their own form of crap.

HOLD ON there cowboy, now you are just talkin plain ignorance. Stickers, as we all know, ARE the quintessential equipment of all vehicles. That deserves a retraction on your part

Re: Funny Ricers

I'm a "function before form" kinda guy but I do know where these guys are coming from. I guess they're seeing their cars more as decorative rather than for racing and going fast... A friend of mine's BF ( ) has a Ford Focus... auto... that he has all tricked out with wings and body kit etc. I can't stand to be near it. But as he explains, he doesn't race, he doesn't need a fast car and he just likes making his car unique so that it's HIS car. Seriously, if everyone left their Civic's stock, the world would be a very uniform place.

I still don't get it... but that's 'cause I'm a driver.

So true you are, how can I know what I'm dealing with unless there is at least 14# of vinyl on it telling me what I'm up against...that said, crap I forgot Autozone is on holiday hours today!! I hope they still have the 'fear this' stickers when I get there...
