Son of a bitch! $$$

Well last night was going to pick the baby up. and it was raining all day. So i am going down the highway and the rain just keeps getting harder and harder. well its to the point where i cant see so i pull over. By some ****ing chance in hell, right where i start to pull over, there is a puddle about 9-12" deep. couldnt see it cuz the rain. I hit the bitch and the engine stalls. and when it stalls, it stalls, with a nice big clunk clunk. Dont even try to start the engine cuz i know something is wrong. get out and oil is drainin all over the road. get under the car and there is a hole in the bottom of my oil pan. my guess i either broke a piston or rod. insurance is paying for it but it will cost me $1000 cuz of my deductable. what a day

Re: Son of a bitch! $$$

Sorry to hear that.

Not a chance that something didn't go through the pan from the outside? Hard to believe that something went through the bottom end like that. Usually when you drop a piston or throw a rod, the rod goes through the top and the piston just flops around in there. Not always but most times.
Hopefully something just wen through the pan from the outside. Pans don't cast that much.

Good luck and let us know what it was.

Re: Son of a bitch! $$$

That sucks. Sounds like the engine ingested some water causing hydrolock

Re: Son of a bitch! $$$

I am guessing that water got in the intake and into the combustion chamber. the hole on the pan has a exit type of hole.

You have a $1000 deductible on a $3000 car?

Re: Son of a bitch! $$$

My wife's Grand Cherokee Laredo LTD (an "alleged" off road capable vehicle) hydrolocked while traveling under 5 mph through 6" of water due to the stupid ass design of the air intake (below the front bumper). Chrysler said it was "an accident", so call your insurance, while the insurance company said it was "an engineering design flaw" so call the manufacturer. $8500.00 later, it was a "cluster ****" and interestingly enough, the next year's model had a relocated air intake.

I will never darken Chrysler's door again . . .

What year was it. I have a 94 limited and am continually amazed at how good of a 4-wheeler it is. The electronics are a P.O.S. and if I weren't a seasoned fuel injection mechanic, it would've been in the junk yard years ago. That being said the drive train kicks ass. The Cherokee is the smallest narrowest full sized SUV around. Try taking the Pole Line trail off pioneer trail up in Tahoe with anything else and you'll scrape the doors off of it on granet boulders.

Oh...Thread jacking over.
Sorry about your car Stegen.

Sorry about your car Stegen.
second or third year after introduction. The same year the ad on TV had it going underwater across a river . . . Consumer Reports sued them due to my case (and 4200 other documented hydrolocks) and they pulled the ad and then relocated the air snorkel . . .

Re: Son of a bitch! $$$

And the thing that worries me most, being that I dont have $1g in the bank, is will they keep my car till i come up with it or will they work out payments. I was thinking about cleaning all the water out of the intake, getting what i can out of the spark plug holes and the oil (which is gone anyway) and seeing if i can just get it on warranty as a mechanical faliure.
