Cage airbox question (damn, no post count here)

Got a '98 Toyota Tacoma 4X4 with the 5VZ 6 cyl. Decided to wash the K&N today and took a closer look at the airbox configuration. After air passes through the filter (8 1/2" X 7 1/4" usable surface area) it is directed to a small opening in the upper right rear area of the airbox. There is an odd looking part (see fuzzy pics) that funnels the air into a 3 1/4" hose, and onto the engine. The small, quartered center hole is approx. 3/4" and the surrounding circle approx. 2 1/2". Doesn't this seem extremely restrictive? Is this an area for a , or should I not even be thinking such evil thoughts? Any Toyota mechanics out there?

I don't see any pics, but it sounds like it may be your mass airflow sensor. If so, yes it is an area for a - but they are pricey.

Haha! Forgot to post the pics. Here they are...

Hit the wrong button again.

And yes, I know it's dirty under that hood.

No, not having any problems, just looks like there could/should be more air flow getting to the engine. Not second-guessing Toyota either, just wanted some input/opinions from others.

Re: Cage airbox question (damn, no post count here)

Measure the SMALLEST opening inside the MAF. Not the outside or the ends.
