Hey whip!

How much further did your bike's side stand sink in the sand before you rescued it? Reminds me of a close call I had not so long ago.

Yeah, mine was disabled by the previous owner, otherwise that would've been the first thing I did. The new sidestands don't do the auto-retract thing, yay!

I dropped a friend's 916--back when the 916 was the ultimate Duc--when I sat on it to see how it felt. Fortunately for me, the bike was stolen 2 days later, so I didn't have to pay for the plastic damage.

You mean you had the bike stolen so you wouldn't have to pay?

Nah, I wouldn't do that. I was out of town, and when I returned, I called him to ask how much I owe him. He then he told me the bad news(for him). Somebody broke into his garage and took off with his bike. It was recovered a month or so later, stripped. He settled with the insurance, so I was spared a few hundred bucks.

Re: Hey whip!

Good eye, Chain! Always the detective, aren't we?

I parked it along the river's edge VERY carefully, and watched as I continued to straddle the bike to see how far she'd sink. Although it stopped before sinking too far, it was definitely a little beyond my comfort level. I repositioned her a bit, tried it again, and QUICKLY and NERVOUSLY took the photos before diving back over to make sure she didn't tumble into the river and begin floating the cool Payette River without me!

That is the most twisted story I've heard in weeks, hilarious! Stolen right in time, lol!

And some folks would suggest the 916 is still the ultimate Duck. Not I, but a few of the old guard remain . . .

Re: Hey whip!

I remember when almost every 916 roadie you saw had a cracked mirror and bunged plastics on the left side.....

And yes, that dealership thing caught a few people out....I remember there being sticky notes on the saddles with warnings....LOL
