UPDATED with awesome pic!!!: The Skydiving Experience !!!

Anyone else give this a go?

i consider myself to be a big risk taker and really dont have many fears outside of needles and snakes so ipretty excited about this one....

there is a group of us going on October 10th in the morning for a class and our first jump, i am so excited im counting the minutes as we speak !!!

I don't kill flies but I like to mess with their minds. I hold them above globes. They freak out and yell, 'Whoa, I'm way too high!'

Re: Just made appointment to go skydiving for the first time !!!

Heh heh. I bought two tandem jumps for my SO and me, for the 18th of September. We showed up, and waited. After watching the plane land, we found out that the landing gear had partially collapsed, and the pilot wasn't going up anytime soon

Since it's already paid for, and there are no refunds, we'll try going up either this or next weekend. Neither of us had ever been. One of the frequent jumpers said "If people knew how safe this is, we wouldn't be cool anymore"

Re: Just made appointment to go skydiving for the first time !!!

I've done it. It's one hellova thrill! I'm planning on doing it again once I have some extra cash kicking around!

Re: Just made appointment to go skydiving for the first time !!!

I've done it but I would imagine a bungee jump would be more thrilling. Haven't done that yet. The first 5 seconds of a sky dive are the best by far. Well spent money.

Re: Just made appointment to go skydiving for the first time !!!

I spent five years on a competitive team..... Almost 300 jumps and love every single one of them.... It's the one sport I miss and regret giving up.

Careful man it's more addictive porn

Enjoy and listen to the jump master during ground school, these guys have to have over a 1000 jumps before they can even be considered for instructor school.

Are you going Tandem or AFF (Accelerated FreeFall)

Re: Just made appointment to go skydiving for the first time !!!

A buddy and I did the tandem thing as soon as we were both 18 and could "sign our lives away".

It totally rocked.

I thought about getting certified but since I already had a motorcycle and car addiction, it didn't seem too affordable (time or moneywise) at the time! Funny, not much has changed...

Re: Just made appointment to go skydiving for the first time !!!

I've wanted to go the last 5 summers, but I either haven't had the cash, or the time. Gonna get around to it next summer fo shizzle. But then again, that's what I've said every year so far

Re: Just made appointment to go skydiving for the first time !!!

BS...the best part (for some people, like me) is free fall. The people I jumped with required you to do a tandem first. Their reasoning was that people are much more likely to finish their training if they know what they're working towards.

Edit: And it wasn't to make "extra" money. They cut you a deal if you paid full for a tandem, then started static line training.

You have no idea how many times we've pushed static students out and watched as they've turned white as a ghost. We had one dude hanging on for dear life and froze. He couldn't make it back in the plane and he didn't want to let go. We were cracking up cause we sent the static master out there to "dislodge" the student from the aircraft. It was funnier if you had watched it play out.

Don't go static, it's junk and it freaks out more people as you have no control and no free fall. Jumping out of the airplane requires a split second of thought. Hanging on and being dragged through the sky kinda panics some poeple, but sure is a giggle to watch

That's the difference between you "pro" guys and the schlep recreational guys like me....

We thought static was the bomb....hanging on the strut was the coolest feeling in the world. For us, that was just another fun aspect of working up to free fall. Also the school I went to was good about "spotting" the strut freezers before they ever got in the plane, and recommending they go tandem instead.....so it was rarely a problem.

I wouldn't go tandem if you paid me, I'd rather jump....but hey, different strokes for different folks...

Edit:
Stopsign, whatever you do, don't watch "Fandango" the night before your school....

Did it a few years ago. Was terrified of heights at the time and thought it would be a good fix - careful it's VERY VERY addictive. You won't regret it!

Softly softly catchy monkey.
