Re: Mt. St. Helens - anyone nearby?

Yeah I saw that last night. 1400 + quakes in a a few days

Good thing is that the center of the volcano has only built up 1300 ft so there isn't much left to blow out, unlike the last time where 4000 ft of the mountain just vaporized!

That would be me. Not too far away in Portland. Certainly don't need to be testing out the home owners insurance so soon. But I'm sure I'd be ok where I'm at. Still pretty damn scarry.

Are these latest quakes strong enough to feel?

From where I'm at, nothing yet. But here's an update on all the special conditions and what precautions they are currently taking.

Re: Mt. St. Helens - anyone nearby?

That thing is far enough from me that I don't worry about it. If it does blow, it's not going to do a whole lot. But the media will make an escapade out of it, show the footage from back in the day (1980?) etc.

22 days until it begins...

From what I saw on the news, the biggest was a 2.9. That's not even enough to scare a dog. You don't really feel anything below 4.0 mostly. Anything weaker and it's a mild shake that can mistaken for someone walking by your cube on the second floor or something.

Re: Mt. St. Helens - anyone nearby?

Quakes and Mt. Saint Helens are exhibiting borborygmi, and it's probably my fault.

(Word of the day: borborygmus (s.) borborygmi (pl.) rumbling of the bowels. Stedman's Medical Dictionary)

In 1989 I left Charleston, SC. to attend my annual professional meeting in San Francisco. Hurricane Hugo wiped out Charleston just after I left for Cali. When I left SF, the earthquakes wiped out SF.

Guess where I am going tomorrow for the AAOMS meeting???

Evacuate before Monday, as my plane leaves SF early Sunday morning.

Official Racer Dude Guy, according to a neighborhood 6 year old.

You need to stop watching TV and step away from the internet

How many times should the earth have been blown up or life as we know it supposed to have ended
