I'll Race Ya' to Texas Booth

Well Marla and I just came back from a weekend in Austin Texas. And just like that we're making an offer on a home this week, giving in our notices, and heading back for the land of over sized trucks, large belt buckels, and humidity! If the offer is accepted we'll be there in mid November.

We just couldn't pass it up - it's a sellers market in CA (esp. with a house on the water) and a buyers market out there. I'm still trying to figure out what the hell I'm going to do with 4,000 square feet...maybe an indoor race track?

man, Austin, TX must be a "hidden jewel" of sorts....my wife lived there for 6 years before moving to NC and since we've gotten together in 2000, she has consistently told me what a wonderful place Austin is...I've visited there once or twice, but never enough to actually get a feel for the place....I mean, she's been on me really hard as of late about moving back to Austin....It's definitely at the top of the relocation list, for sure, but I ain't convinced just yet.....

is it really nirvana? someone give a brotha some more info....what about telecom opportunities there? what employers should someone with a telecom background investigate in Austin? more importantly, how long does the riding season last? I know the cost of living there is a smidgen cheaper than Raleigh...what about the school systems? nice neighborhoods? traffic? etc, etc, etc.....I need the info!!!

Sounds great for you guys!

Don't worry about the extra space. It's a law of nature that junk expands to fit the available space. I've personally tested that law and have found it to be unalterably true.

I recently started a business that I'll be taking with us when we go. Worst case scenario I'll just put work on hold for a few months until we get settled and start things back up again. It's pretty flexible which is nice.

Do you mind if I ask who/what you applied for?

Every resident is given a million dollars and their own love slave. Okay, maybe it isn't that good, but so far it's one of the best places I've lived. It's a fairly young city, plenty of hi-tech companies in the area, low cost of living, the schools in Round Rock (5 minutes North of Austin) are rated very well, and the riding season is about 10 months of decent riding and two months of spuratic raining.

It's tough to give someone a good idea of what it's like unless you've lived there. Do you and your wife have children? If so, it's a pretty safe place to raise kids. And the extra $ you save every month certainly doesn't hurt.

Re: I'll Race Ya' to Texas Booth

Ok SJ, Booth is out of the gate, leading into turn one
Got a call from a company in Austin this morning, sounds like they are ready to go to. Involves lots of travel, but it's a gig. Gotta find out if they want me in Austin, if I can move to Dallas, and what not. I should know something very, very soon. Austin sounds nice this time of year, damn good weather
