My very own gun thread

This thread is making me want to go to a range and empty a couple clips

What's a good place for an absolute beginner to start? Only thing I've ever shot before is a 9mm Beretta and it was a blast. I'm not looking to get anything super expensive or fancy, just something to play with for now.

I'll take you to an indoor range and let you shoot my 1911. I'll teach you everything you need to know. First things first: Memorize these. 10 Comandments of gun Safty Make them a part of who you are. Second nature...no first nature. They will save your life, and more importantly the lives of those around you.

Sounds alot like common sense to me considering the one time I got to play with guns that was basically how we did it. They are fun but like alot of the toys we play with will bite you hard if you dont respect them.

Re: My very own gun thread

also,

clips are just that, clips and are usually considered disposable. Chances are, anything you shoot will use magazines. Get it right newbie! j/k!

down with the 1911!!!

Re: My very own gun thread

If you ever make it to St. Louis I'll take you shooting. I have a .22 that is perfect for learning how to shoot and ammo is cheap. We could shoot it all day. If you get bored with that we'll shoot my Glock or we'll bruise our shoulders with some slugs or buck-shot through one of my 870's at an outdoor range.

EDIT: To answer your original question, I think a .22 is an excellent start for shooting because you can avoid developing the bad habits that can come with shooting a more powerful gun.

Re: My very own gun thread

ER is right. .22 is a great place to start. I'll borrow dad's .22 pistol. It's a lot of fun, and cheap cheap cheap ammo!

We have a few gun shows in the area. One at the IX center (usually in June I think) and at the Berea fairgrounds in the spring sometime. I could be wrong on the dates. Last time I went to the Berea show it was pretty lame.

actually, I am glad you asked this question, ND b/c all of this gun talk has gotten me to thinking...where would an absolute, absolute beginner such as myself, who has never even held a real life weapon before(unless you consider my hand-held BB gun I had when I was 12 a real weapon ) begin? what would be considered an ideal "starter" weapon? a .22? a .380?

where can I go to get the proper training? license? what if I'm interested in get a carrying permit of some sort? help a bortha out!

I shot a .22 pistol and a small powered rifle (maybe a .22 if there is such a thing). Easy to hold, and shoot considering I had never shot anything but a paintball gun

I cut and pasted the upcoming Gunshows in Ohio below...found them here

I agree with TGZ13...the AR15 is one of my favorite firearms. There are so many directions you can go with them. If you are interested I'll keep my eyes open for you. I've been building ARs for quite a while and know a fair price when I see it.

.22 bolt action rifle is the best place to start for someone like you QuickMike. Handguns require "special" attention.

I don't care what anyone says, basic firearm safety is a legitimate skill that takes practice. Just like getting a beginner bike, you should start w/ a beginner gun. I would NOT consider an AR to be a beginner gun.
