WTF is wrong with people? Who would pay $3500 for a bioengineered cat?

My GF works at a vet office in a ritzy area. You have no idea how much money people will pay for an animal, or to save it.

They do freakin' chemo there!

Re: A what??!

Our dog has been on chemo for the past 13 months with excellent results. Fortunately, we live close to one of the best Vet hospitals in the US (MSU) and the treatment isn't over the top financially. At 8 years old he had contracted Cushings disease which is the death knoll within 6 to 8 months if untreated. He also has diabetes and requires twice daily injections. A pain in the ass, but for a family member, not a problem . . .

Now a glo-cat I might pay $3,500 for.

I can relate. Took our Golden Retriever to MSU for exploratory surgery to diagnose the cause of his limping. They determined he had osteochondriasis (cartilege disease). Let's just say it wasn't cheap, but we wanted the best Vets to look at him. This was before we had kids...can't say I'd spend the dough if it happened today.

The Vet office my GF works at has people fly their animals in. People drive in from all over the state. We went up to a dogshow and when people found out where she worked, they would just gush on and on about how great they are.

People will spend thousand$ on a pet rat!

She tells me that most animals don't live very long even with Chemo so I kinda have a different view on it...

The glo fish is awesome! I've been thinking of taking my reef tank home, maybe I'll replace it with these.

Re: A what??!

Did anyone look at the survey results? almost 30% of the people polled(two days ago when I looked) wanted a cat that chases dogs...hmmm think about that for a second, go get the rottweiler kitty, not a wise move...what do some of these people think that their "genetically superior house cat" is gonna lay the smack down on a huge ass dog? dont think so.
If I was going to get a genetically enhanced cat, I would make it like a dog, and I would have them make it so the cat craps outside...on the neighbours lawn (2 houses down)(long story) so I dont have to clean it up...now that would be a good cat.
