UPDATED AGAIN - My 1974 Jeep CJ-5 Project

i just bought a "new" 1974 jeep cj-5 on friday for a restoration project... sofar it has a 2 inch suspension lift, 2 inch body, amc 360 v8, and 33's (not shown in pictures)... i have alot of work to do though as i paid only $150 if that gives you a good picture (i will post pics when i get home)...

anyway what i am looking for is a few jeep forums or parts dealers that come recommended from you guys.... please tell me there is a .org equivalant for jeeps ?

To answer some questions yes it runs like a bear, the 3speed is a performance limiter cuz at 65 on the highway it sounds like it wants to blow up or kick into warp speed... Seriously the motor is its strongest point along with the rebuilt rears and new tranny, its the body and spagetti pile of wiring that needs the most help. Anyway I feel i got my money worth, its been a daily driver for the last 7 years and I drove it to work a few times as is with no trouble.... Heres some pics...

This thread is worthless without pics. You have my interest. Somehow I'm thinking this is a good idea for me so that I can save the miles on my truck. I've only had it a year and already have 19,000+ miles on it.

And you thought bikes were expensive?

This one is pretty hardcore and has some real "jewels" for members, but lots of good info. http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=10

This one has some of the best AMC info out there.

Re: PICS ADDED !!! Just bought a ...... can someone please recommend a......

Those effing things are the most dangerous, ill handling motor vehicles I've ever driven, particuarly the lifted and/or V8 powered ones. Plus, I never could get in and out of 'em like I could the 7, what with the small, square cutout on the side.

Be careful, lol. I'm sure you've already found out, it's a handful on the highway. Lock to lock just to keep it in your lane.

Re: PICS ADDED !!! Just bought a ...... can someone please recommend a......

Looks like a good project vehicle. You only paid $150????? You stole it. I'm assuming this is going to be a weekend warrior and not a dd? Should be some serious fun.

Don't worry about Chain's comments...he'll change his mind two or three more times more before this thread dies and then come back a week later with another, different opinion.

If you are going to drive it on the road...do some PM on the steering and the brakes...yours has drums all the way around, (assuming all stock,) and I'll bet they've been neglected. Again, good job! Lot's of smiles left in that thing.
