Strange evening...

I was driving around tonight, following one of my friends up to the local Wal-Mart. On the way there we go under this bridge and at the other end of it is a guy on a bike(older ZX-11) with his blinkers on. As I get closer to him, I see his gloves laying back by the rear tire so I figured something was wrong and I flashed my brights at my buddy and then pulled over to see what he needed. I walk up to him and ask what's going on, he says his bike won't turn over and hands me his helmet, gets off his bike and has me hang on to the bike. So I hand him his helmet back and ask if I could try. Bike was in first, so I put it in N, fires right up. I look at the guy with a "what's the deal" look. At this point I got a better look at him as he couldn't stand straight. This dude was drunk off his arse. He answers my look by saying that if he puts it in gear, it stalls out. When I walked up to him I noticed that his kickstand was down, so I put it up, popped it in first, and sure enough, no problem.

By this time my buddy came back around, asked him to move my truck off into the grass(we were by an empty field) and told the guy to get in his car and we'd move the conversation out of traffic into a parking lot. Nearest parking lot was about 1/4mi away so we pulled in, and I asked him if he had anyone he could call to take his bike home because he's in no condition to ride. He said he only lived a mile up the street and asked if I'd be willing to do it for him because he doesn't want to ride and he knows he shouldn't have been on it in the first place. Ended up being a couple miles by the time we got back to his apartment. I promptly told him that he shouldn't have done what he did, could've very easily killed himself and others. He was very apologetic and thankful. Hopefully he'll remember in the morning and he won't do it again

Re: Strange evening...

Re: Strange evening...

Sounds like he needs AA. Falling down drunk, then get on a bike, and be stupid enough not to do the kickstand trick

Must obey the sheep dog

Re: Strange evening...

yes he was stupid but atleast he did have the sense to stop and then got lucky the bike had those safety features that a drunk forgets about. Good job getting him home safe.

if you can't convince them, confuse them.

Re: Strange evening...

Last night he asked me to check on him this morning, so me & my buddy went by his apartment to do so. Surprisingly he still remembered us and was very grateful. Might check on him again in a couple days, see if he needs any help. He seemed to have a pretty serious alcohol problem, hopefully he'll ease up at least a bit...

Re: Strange evening...

good job bud

Whats amazing is that he gave up the keys without any fight. Most people at that stage are all high and mighty that they can do it themselves.

Congrats on helping out someone in need
