.50 BMG Info

Please do not waste our time talking about need in this thread, I will mercilessly flame you if you do.

I am seriously thinking about buying one of these brutes, partially as my own (not so) little political statement. If I want to do it, I should order in the very near term due to our impending ban in PROK.

I surfed the FCSA and the AR 15 50BMG forums this morning. Also pulled out every rifle magazine I have and read through the .50 cal articles over the weekend.

For a low cost entry, the Serbu looks pretty hard to beat. I can also just buy the receiver now which is very appealing. I don't think I'll be shooting this gun much, so it's hard for me to justify spending too much...but Barret did just release a semi-auto CA legal .50. (I swore an oath recently after paying off my CC's not to charge them up again except in dire situations....maybe this is dire? )

Anywhoo, one of the things I can't seem to verify is the claims in the mags about physical harm on the body from shooting these monsters. Talk about detatched retinas and sinus problems from the overpressure due to the brake doesn't sound fun. Does anyone who's shot one of these, or hung out with a .50 cal shooter have any inputs?

Re: .50 BMG Info

The biggest thing I learned when shooting these hand held Howitzers is that when you fire the weapon make sure you mouth is open. The pressure these things create is unbelieveble. After about 8 shots my shoulder was junk. I used to shoot over 30 rounds of 3" magnum rounds out of my 12ga without a problem...not true with the 50. If you want to be the "big guy" at the range this is the gun to do it with. There is something very satisfying about going to the long range targets and watching everyone with their 223's and 308's. I was at the range with my 308 and was having a blast with a bunch of 223 guys. Then this dude shows up in an H2 and pulls the cannon out. HOLY F%#KING CRAP, that scared the poop outta me. You know you got a big azz gun when you fire it from the prone position and it literally knocks the dust off the canopy over you. I say go big man.

Re: .50 BMG Info

you are the man for getting one!

Its a bit out of my reach for now, but I hope to get one someday. I know you didn't want anyone chatting about need. But you, a pro gun guy in CA NEEDS one of these! In your case, I'd say this is dire!

I've read quite a bit about them too. The only thing I know that is a definite is DO NOT shoot it WITHOUT a brake. wow, talk about having issues if you do. There is a .50BMG specialty forum on glocktalk too you should check out. Lots of hardcore .50 guys there that do a lot of long range stuff...

You mean, your mouth is not open? I've seen that repeated a bunch of times in lots of different places.

What gun were you shooting?

Good timing with your thread this morning then?

Lucky for me, the first cortisone shots will be going into my weak-side shoulder which has screws in it.
