Half-Life 2 Woo Hoo!!!

Unlocking what I hope is one of the best games I've ever played. The original was excellent.
I may skip work tomorrow as I feel like a little kid again.

That was the best race I have ever seeen....

Actually a lot of us do. There's even a forum for it

Haven't gotten a hold of a copy of HL2 yet. Been busy playing Rome: Total War, Doom III, and yet again, Far Cry

I do but I haven't played that. And it is not too cold to ride yet. There's snow on the ground and I rode yesterday.

if you can't convince them, confuse them.

Am I missing a link? Where's the gaming forum aside from the Arcade?

Get it, it is very worth the cost.

I am waiting for some reviews before getting it. Gamespot gave it a REALLY good review. 9.2 rating of 10. I haven't seen any other games get that high, despite their criticism of the lack of good story.

Doom 3 burned me so I'm gonna wait a little.

What do you mean by that? I'm actually in the market for a new PC just to play D3, Half Life 2 and many of the other games out in the last couple years.

If you upgrade your PC, don't do it to play doom 3. It's not very well put together for all the hype around it. It's totally enclosed, totally dark, and the sounds are all f*cked up. There are a few scenes that have good graphics but MOST of the graphics do no good at all because the light level in the entire game is almost nothing! You have to turn the brightness up to max and then sit in total darkness to even come close to playing. Why do you think they immediately came out with the "duct tape" mod right after the game was released. It allows you to use the flash light while having your shotgun out. The sound screw ups are dumb cheapo things. Like you hit a cardboard box and it sounds like metal. You hit a wall that is made of living flesh and it sounds like metal. You hit a dead body with your flash light and the thing desintegrates into thin air? WTF? For such a hyped game, it leaves much to be desired for such and incredible PC hog. You will need some serious cash to make it run well too. There is only one scene where you actually see further than down the hallway and that's when you are between buildings. That lasts for 3 seconds as you go from door to door. No fighting out in the open or anything. No landscapes or even roomscapes. I wouldn't bother with Doom 3. Gamespot gave it an 8.5 rating, HL2 got a 9.2 rating which was one of the highest I saw on thier game rating lists. HL2 got downgraded for the story being almost the same as HL1. Oh well.

Here are the reviews:

Re: Half-Life 2 Woo Hoo!!!

HL2's system requirements are far smaller than Doom 3's as well.

A friend of mine has both and the Dell XPS desktop and said he can run Doom3 at full tilt and HL2 he has to scale back to run smoothly

Re: Half-Life 2 Woo Hoo!!!

Hmm...well perhaps I'm just not in the know. I don't own either game but I played a friend of mine's Doom 3 which it says sys. requirements are:

P4 1.5GHZ
384 MB mem
Geforce 3 or better vid card

HL2's are:

P4 700Mhz
125 MB mem

Remember, HL2 was designed about 3 years ago and was delayed a year so it's designed for slower PC's.
