Re: Want fries with outsourcing?

I'm surprised that's cheaper, still being in the US.

How long until we outsource executive management?

It's not cheaper as the operators make more, it's more productive, which makes it cost less per burger.

Sounds like a good idea to me.

I see...I got the "cheaper" from the mention of lower costs on the first page.

I still don't get it though...the only way this could be considered more productive is if you take into account you're not paying for time when orders are not actively being taken...which assumes that fast food joints leave someone in the drive-thru box whether there are customers there or not...which they don't. They mention a 2% increase in order accuracy, but if that's a huge number why not install comparable hardware yourself? In fact, why not put a touch pad/video order system in place and let the customer place the order themselves...forget the operator altogether?

And my last question about this very important topic , who hands the food out the window at the remote-operator restaurants? What are they doing the rest of the time?

Crap, I'll be up all night with this one...

Re: Want fries with outsourcing?

I ASSumed the operator took the order and sent it to the screens that are already in the kitchen for the current systems. Of course for now, a person does everything else you mention.

Why is it better? My guess?

Because all the call center person is focused on is data entry, not running ragged like the window operator usually is.

Exactaly, and they are not trying to take your order, while packagage another one while being flagged by a person at the counter wanting ketchup, trying to fill the shake machine, make change for the person at the window, etc. And they know the menu inside and out, have you ever tried to ask "what comes on that?" at the drive up? Your lucky (here in So Cal) to be able to understand the spanglish answer. I like the whole idea.

Re: Want fries with outsourcing?

From what I can understand from this, "people" are the biggest cost for a company. This comes down to pay and insurance (i.e. liability).

If they can reduce the number of people and reduce the liability to their company by having a machine that can't get hurt, sick or anything else that will cost them many without actually getting work out of an employee, then they are going to take it everytime. The ROI on the $50k these machines cost for each place could pay for themselves easily by reducing just one employee.
