Shot my first Deer Sunday

Finally got one after missing a nice buck opening morning of bow season. A buddy and I were sitting on a hilltop in a field watching a u-shaped tree line. We estimated it to be 175 to the farthest part. After about an hour, 2 deer came out from the right side and started grazing... They looked like Does, so we waited for a few minutes hoping a buck would appear soon after. After about 15-20 minutes I decided to take a shot at one. When I lifted my rifle, I couldnt see the deer, since I had never shot my gun that distance. My scope was out of focus. My buddy handed me his 30-06 with his hubble-esque 16x scope on it. Lined up the crosshairs, and BOOM! Deer still stood there looking our direction. Missed it, and it didnt care. So I gave his gun back and started to adjust my scope. Got it to where I could see clearly and waited a minute as they were slowly walking toward us. Once they stopped again, I picked the larger one, same one I missed before, and sent 150grains of Remmington Core-Lockt its direction and dropped it like a bad habit. It turned out to be a little Button Buck. And when I say little, I mean maybe 70lbs dressed. Not a trophy by any means, but everyone has to have their 1st.

I used my late grandfather's Winchester Model 88 .308 with a Redfield 4x scope. Measured the shot afterward and it was exactly 200 yds. Attatched is a picture showing its whopping size and my buddy was filming when I dropped it so Ill post a vid tomorrow when I digitize it.

Re: Shot my first Deer Sunday

Take it easy big guy, don't strain yourself holding that monster. Everyone has their "big" kill at one point, your's just happened to be your first. When I had my little one it was a whopping 93 lbs dressed. Oh yeah I didn't hear the end of that for a few years. I made up for it though when I hit my trophy buck....10 pt, 189 dressed, and the best part is when he just dropped where he stood and I didn't have to track him down. You'll have your big day, don't worry about that. Congrats on your first, the venison will be killer on that little guy too .

Hey now BDA, in NH 189 is a damn good size deer. That 93 pounder looked so much bigger in the scope .

I know, I'm just giving you shizzle, nikka.
We're just used to mulies around these parts where a 4-5 pointer (we only count one side of the rack) at 225-250 is considered a good one, and trophies are in the 250+ range.

God Bless you BDA,
We get alot of import hunters, they all want to count all the points. Or they say by, like 4 by 5.

Congrats! That thing will make a nice snack! I'm surprised you didn't get buck fever when you saw it!
