Re: Another Police Adventure

Friday after work, a friend rode to my shop. We took a ride and went to the Marina to go out on his boat. At around 11:00PM we headed home on Rt 36, a 4 lane divided highway between the Garden State Parkway and the Shore. We are fooling around a little at red lights, launching and running through 2nd with nobody on the road EXCEPT for the unmarked car coming the other way. We never saw the cop and after I killed my freind by 50 bike lenghts, (he doesn't ride a Honda) we slowed down, stopped at 3 red lights and were in the next town over, Middletown. You generally do nothing wrong in Middletown, these guys are serious! We reach a traffic light and I notice 4 police cars in every direction and can see they're looking at me. We cross the intersection and as I'm watching a cop on the other side of the highway, one pulls up behind my freind and pulls him over. I start moving to the shoulder and a cop that was hiding in a parking lot comes flying out and almost hits me, then hits the cherries. I was already stopping and pulled over about 500 feet from my freind. 4 more Crown Vic's come flying in and surround my bike. Holsters were unbuttoned. I shut down and get off the bike the cop walks up and says 'trying to run' I'm thinking 'you're trying to kill me' and I still don't know why I've been stopped. He then says 'I didn't tell you to get off the bike' I said, 'You will want my liscense Reg and INS and I have to get off to get them for you.' I asked him if 2 guys on bikes just robbed a bank and he told me 'No 2 Jerk Offs are just riding like they did!' Now I know it's serious and why we're stopped. The cop from the other town pulled up to my freind and after talking to him calmed down and only wrote him a Careless. He comes up to me and the cop that 'Caught' me ran my paperwork, and gave it to him, he started writing in the ticket book and one of the cops I was chatting with on the side of the road walked over and told him my brother is on the job. He walks over to me asks how I'm doing, I say 'not as good as you'! He tells me, 'I'm a detective stuck working midnight patrol because we're short handed.' So I figure we're about even. He asks if my brother's a cop, I say yes and he calls me an a$$ hole because he already wrote my freind and would let us go if he knew. I told him to do what he has to and I got a Careless ticket too. If I have my brother call him for me, he'll drop it in court.

Overall, I got to meet a bunch of officers, most were really cool except for the one that pulled me over. I must live in a good area since we had the attention of 11 cops from 2 different towns on a Friday night. I don't think I was careless, but agreed with the cop that 80MPH (his estimation) is a bit much even on an empty highway. I also think the siezure laws need to change, The police are using siezed vehicles on patrol so it's almost impossible to pick them out. If I ride aggressively I should keep it up longer, I was only a mile from my town and if I ran one yellow light I would have made it there and been in no trouble at all.

Re: Another Police Adventure

Yep, it's all revenue generation for the state. If they were only concerned with 'protecting and serving' no traffic cop would have an unmarked car. The black and white does a much better job of traffic enforcement. For that matter, they'd use the most basic, non-pulse band on their radar guns knowing it would set off your detector and slow you down. This stuff exists simply to collect revenue.

BTW, this is the opinion of a cop friend of mine....
