Online Car Shopping

Hey guys, I've never done this before, but how do you go about shopping cars online?

If anyone has a Ford hookup, lemme know too.

Thinking about an 05 Mustang.

navydevildoc, since you seem to be surfing the forum, if you see this, do NOT mention it to your Mom, Sis or Ana.

Re: Online Car Shopping

i usually find my vehicle online and then go talk to the rep about it. honda had an internet only sales rep, he gave some really good prices.

with your areas mark up on vehicles you probably could save enough to buy a first calss ticket to anyplace in the US to drive it back and still come out on top

Their website sucks, but you could contact Ernie Hasna here: http://www.kengarffford.com/
He's actually a good guy - hard to believe in the car business. He'd give you the best deal he can.
I can call him tomorrow and get his direct e-mail addy if you want it.

Re: Online Car Shopping

LTL beware. I just read an article in the modesto bee ( Ithink you could probably find it at www.modbee.com ) that was about a local contractor that bought a new chevy 1 ton dually out of state. It said that even though the truck is not equipped with smog equipment, the truck still passes the sniffer test. Unfortunately, even though the truck passes, our wonderfully F'd up state is still making him get the truck out of CA or face $5,000 in fines.

There are some counties in Ca that still have no smog checks if that is an issue. But moving to one might not be an option.

It depends on the car.

The county I live in has the toughest standards I know of in the state. You must goto a dyno and have them run it on the rollers. They are all "test only", if you want repairs you take it to another shop, bring it back to the smog station, and try again. It's total bullshit. Smog should be a sniffer in the pipe and a run on the rollers.

Re: Online Car Shopping

All I can say is what a friend told me in MA. He was a traditional car salesmen, the dealer offered him to be the "internet sales guy". He ran ads on the big sites, he said the internet buyers emailed all the dealers in the area and took the best deal. It ended up a win win, you give the best price you get the deal, he said just work out ALL the details before you waste the time of going down there. He makes a mint and has many happy customers.

Re: Online Car Shopping

When the wifer and I bought our '04 4Runner last year, we got pricing from all the area dealerships via the web. Once we had that, we picked the 2nd to cheapest dealership to go haggle with. If they didn't beat the price of the cheapest, we would go to the cheaper priced dealership. The 2nd to cheapest dealership did actually beat the price, but they wanted to sell me a 4Runner with deep scratches to the rear tailgate. Ended up walking and going to the cheapest internet priced dealer.

Hope that helps!
Good luck!!
