Re: Laundry

ok here's the short of it... my wife's been out of the country for 3 weeks and i am stuck doing all the household deeds.

i was doing laundry the other day and i forgot i had clothes in the washer.....for about 3 days. they now stink. i tried rewashing them... but i still cannot get that smell out.

what to do?

oh btw. i also found out you /should not/ put dish washing liquid in the dishwasher (go figure), i came home and there was foam /all/ over the kitchen... was like a scene out of the brady bunch or something....

Re: Laundry

Are they whites or darks?
Try using a half cup of bleach if the load's white in the next wash - hot water.
You're basically starting to grow mold so you need to get rid of it, otherwise it will continue to smell.
If darks, Febreze makes a laundrey freshener. Dunno if that will get rid of it.
Hot water wash though might work.

Re: Laundry

This should've been a thread a few days ago, titled 'How do I launder clothes?' or 'Is tying a string on my finger the best way to not forget to dry my laundry?'

to be honest, i don't recall how the f*ck i survived when i was single....

it's actually both...i never separated anything

it doth appear i am useless.

i'll try rewashing them... again.
i did try them once and thought maybe the dryer would help, but i am thinking that might not have helped that much.

Re: Laundry

LOL....sorry Critz, couldn't help but laugh because I've forgotten about laundry too.

Try Tide detergent (liquid) if the load is not white. I had a fire in an apt I used to live in and had to rewash all of my clothes to get the smell out. I don't recall where I read or learned about using Tide, but it worked. Wash that load a few times, that should help.

Re: Laundry

It sounds nasty but just use a cup of vineger when you wash them again. The mold smell will come out and they will smell clean.

Re: Laundry

Don't let all these guys talk that smack.. like the ladies have said, hot water wash into the dryer. If you have the ability to hang them outside then do so... I do darks and lights together too, GF goes hay-wire, told her she always has the option of doing the laundry, Hmmmp I thought so, mixing is just fine, unless the reds are new!

Re: Laundry

So many people have stated using hot water for colors - hmm.... Colors fade and fabric shrinks in hot water. I use warm/cold for whites, but always cold/cold for colors and delicates. Ok...now I sound like Betty Homemaker. Anywho...that is how I was raised and it works well for me.

Critz - you have plenty of options from what has been posted - one of them should work for you. Listen to the buzzer next time.

Re: Laundry

Another option is to throw them away and buy new clothes. Old navy always has stuff on sale.

Since you didn't mention burning the house down, is it safe to assume that you haven't even tried to cook for yourself?
