Re: MS Exchange

I administer about 12 Exchange sites. I seem to remember something about your shop not running AD. If this is the case, you won't be able to run Exchange 200X. Half of the utility in Exchange is located in the AD admin tools. and the only source for users is through AD.

Re: MS Exchange

If anybody ever needs any cluster help...I've built two 6 (4active, 2passive) node w2k03/Ex03 clusters, SAN backend...all that chit. ...and tons of w2k clusters. I'm not super strong on the EX or AD side but I know clustering in and out.

It's easier than IBM HA...

I've got several MSCS DB clusters up and running, various flavors of NAS/SAN/S-SCSI. Much easier to setup & maintain than any other clustering solutions I've used.

You have to be smarter than the machinery you are operating! lol

I don't mind MS's clustering. But will cuss IBMs til I die! POS! Espeically there IBM scsi base clusters...proprietary BS! Son of a mother.....

Their HW is junk!

On the SCSI based cluster solution, I agree. On the whole, I have had better luck with IBM than just about every other brand we support. The saving grace is their service where you always get someone who has seen the particular piece you need work on (unlike Dell or Compaq/HP where the guy they send doesn't have a manual, parts book or any knowledge of half of the product line).

Hey you could try to cluster a PERC system

You've had better luck than me w/ IBM support! Don't seem any better to me than Dell or hp. ...and we're suppose to have a number that skips first level support. Some have a clue, most don't!!!

I've done a few Dell scsi/perc base clusters. Work better than the IBMs!!!...that damb IPSAHTO.EXE (any util name Hostile take over util can't be good) I asked a IBM SQL/Cluster guru why IBM uses that instead of letting the cluster service contol disk ownership....the smart A$$ would only say because we care about your data more than other manufactors. B-f...n-S!

On the dells. I don't use the veritas clusterx....dell use to push that for their clusters.

Also the IBMs are slower than an = IBM. Our backup network pulls data off the Dells almost 2/3s faster than the same data off the IBMs. The busses seem to be faster on the dells.

They all have their issues!!!

Re: MS Exchange

MSCS on Dells was always a headache for me... but they were on en EMC/Brocade SAN.

We (work) put in a nice HP SuperDome cluster in for NASA last year... seems to be working great!

Wish I could say the same for another customer with Veritas CS... painful, painful, painful. But they are trying to run it between nodes on a SONET ring several hundred km away. EMC SRDF works great over that tho.

But, the all-time winner for clusters has to be OpenVMS. Digital (R.I.P.) had that chit nailed. Even today, there are systems out there with cluster uptimes in the DECADES.

Re: MS Exchange

Heres a funny exchange story.. well it wasnt my email involved.

This one exchange admin I knew. Well he didnt want to show up to work on the weekend and decided to do his work from home. So he finds out that some of the remote admin/dial up stuff ( I think) wasnt loaded onto the server. He threw in the install disk. He deselected all and just selected the remote admin stuff.

Poof! Everyones email went cablooey! He uninstalled everything but the remote admin stuff.

Last I heard he got traded to the most despised supervisor of the desktop support group.

AltaVista is a perfect example . . .

Solaris clusters work very nicely once you actually figure out what the damn docs are attempting to say . . .
