Question about Software for overseas

I know that you can not sell software from the U.S. to overseas. But is it illegal to use a U.S. software license on a foreign computer?

For example if someone comes to the U.S. to visit and purchases Microsoft Office and takes it back home with them to XX country is the license valid and legal??

I think it is only the selling part that is the problem, right?

Thanks!

Re: Question about Software for overseas

you should read the EULA and see if it says for US computers only. if not, then i would say it is OK. always check the EULA it is the contract

Check for 'not for Export' labels. Usually encryption is the issue as it is considered 'arms'

Spoken like a true US government subcontractor, but very true. You must have been ITAR trained.

Thanks everyone! Looks like all the software is ok to take out of the country.
