JOHN DEERE... There is no other.... And you can get it at Home Depot now so you can support your NASCRAP at the same time.

Re: lawn mowers

I have tortured my Craftsman rider (42" w/cast front axle and 21hp V-twin motor) for the last couple of years and am very happy with how it's held up. The house I used to live at over in Iowa had a terrible, hilly, treed and rut filled yard that was hell on the tractor (and my back), but it's still running strong and I didn't pay all that much for it, mid teens IIRC.

Craftsman is a good value IMO.

Just for the record, those aren't the top shelf JDs like you can buy at a JD only dealer. JD makes that line of tractors specifically for Home Depot and I don't think they are any more durable than the Craftsman units.

Re: lawn mowers

Yeah, we deal with our local JD dealer for our mower because of that.

Re: lawn mowers

My John Deere is great, bought it from Dad when he went to FL. Like Chain says avoid the Home Depot JDs, if a real one is not in your budget get something else before the depot version. That said I know people that have had decent luck with a Craftsman or Simplicity but neither is a Deere.

EDIT: Oops I assumed riding mower. If push get a Craftsman or like stated below Honda. Riding go Deere

PS Sheep know grass trimming

Re: lawn mowers

Hand mower? After I destroyed my Craftsman, I got a Honda. I purchased it from the same place I got the Toro Wheel Horse. The riding mower was purchased from the local dealer because I let them service it once a year. That's not as much of a consideration with a hand mower, as all it needs is the occasional spark plug, oil change, and blade sharpening.

Re: lawn mowers

Pretty much everything you get OTHER than a Honda, John Deere, Simplicity, Toro, and very few others is probably going to be an MTD and therefore are almost all the same.
