How come they're sooooo expensive?

Diamonds that is. $6000 for a little tiny ass glittery thing.

Bwhahahaha! Hang onto your ass son. What happens a few years after you cough up that diamond makes the ring look cheap!

Re: How come they're sooooo expensive?

Don't get the anti-diamond people started....

Luckily, we got twice as much diamond for our money, since Princess' parents are jewelers. (You wouldn't believe the markup on the stuff.... )

I think Ron White said it best:

It's a matter of supply and demand Pal, as well as marketing. I get a giggle though when they say you should spend 3 months salary on an engagement ring. Yeah, right. Like that happens in middle class. There ain't no way I'd put something that can fit down a sink drain on a woman's finger that costs more than a new RC. And the good point is, she agrees with me.

I'd like to hear from the fairer side of the membership on this:

Alex, Princess, HG & HG2, (and any others I'm missing), what is your opinion of said 3 month salary rule??

Re: How come they're sooooo expensive?

I was talking to a friend last night at the track who's buddy is a gemologist and can get smokin deals on diamonds. He paid $3500 for a $7000 one. The one we semi decided on was 1.26ct and was a VS1 in clarity, a G in color, and is a Princess cut.

We want you to really think about forking over the money to buy it to make sure you are ready to take the plunge. It's not the ring it's the man. If we can have both it's even better.

Princess' is a 1.00ct, E color, round cut. I don't remember where it fell on the clarity scale.

Re: How come they're sooooo expensive?

Three month's salary? Yikes! Personally, I wouldn't want one that expensive. I think the money could be better spent on things like a downpayment on a house, furniture, stuff you need to start out your life together. I would probably want a diamond, but something modest, not even close to 3 month's salary.
