5 speed stuck in reverse.

so we have this busted old subaru wagon. its 5 speed manual and last time it was driven, they backed up and now it wont comeout of reverse. Any ideas what would cause that. The transmission seemed fine. clutch engages so i am guessing it not that, not like you still couldnt take it out of reverse.

Re: 5 speed stuck in reverse.

bent/broken shift linkage. When you move the shifter does it feel like it's manipulating anything?

Sounds like it needs to be jumped take it out in an abandoned field and let'er rip over some hay bales, that should loosen it up

Does it have any manual notches on the shifter or just 'the boot' ?

why put off today what you can wake up late and forget to do tomorrow.

Re: 5 speed stuck in reverse.

I know when I had a 67 Camaro it got stuck on me once and I was able to free it up by going under the care and manipulating the shift linkage right where it goes into the tranny..

Re: 5 speed stuck in reverse.

Just rev it a bit...

Seriously though, just rock it a few times in gear then try getting it out of gear.
