Going to Vegas, what should I do there?

Vegas has never really appealed that much to me... flashing lights and gambling don't get me that excited.

My girlfriend is turning 21 on the 16th and her parents are sending her and I to Vegas as a gift. Ya she's spoiled. Her stepdad is a bit of an "oil baron".

So we're going from the 19th to 23rd of May. Jess is a big Celine Dion fan, so I know that will be on the itinerary. I think I'll take her to Megadeth for payback on my birthday.

Anyways, what can a guy like me do to stay sane/entertained there? I'm excited to go, and grateful, but I need your suggestions. Any big events at the racetrack there that weekend?

The following suggestions will not be entertained:

-hookers

-ummm craps?

-hookers

Help please.

And then there's this asshole...

Re: Going to Vegas, what should I do there?

Just go around looking at some of the kick ass hotels... My ex's parents went there and just went hotel hopping. Some of those places are frigen unbelieveable.

Other then that I have no idea... I would say a motorsports event if one is going on but I will not say gamble. I would rather spend my $$ then loose it in "hopes" of making more in return. Go enjoy, get laid and be merry

Re: Going to Vegas, what should I do there?

An elevator ride up the Eiffel Tower, a gondola ride through the canals of Venice, check out the Statue of Liberty, ancient Egypt, free shows like the water show in front of the Bellagio, the shows outside Treasure Island and the Mirage. Check out the dolphin pond and secret garden / zoo, shark tank, white tigers at the Mirage. There's the walk-through lion den at the MGM Grand, the shark reef at the Mandalay Bay.
The dinner show at the Excalibur is not to be missed. A medieval knight tale complete with live horses and jousting, magic, etc. with an interactive dinner.
The roller coaster ride at New York New York, the various rides at the top of the Stratosphere. The M&Ms shop, the Coke tower, the massive arcade.
As previously mentioned, just hotel gawking. There are various monorails / trams between many of them, free for anyone to ride.
The long indoor underground shopping corridors that have an outdoors feel to them. Like cheesecake? At the end of the shopping corridor in Caesar's Palace there is a great cheesecake place right in front of a large aquarium.
Do I need to go on? How much time do you have there?
There is more to do in Vegas than just gamble and strippers.

Oh yeah, stay toward the southern end of the strip. That's where all the fun stuff is. Somewhere like the Monte Carlo or even a little farther up at Caesar's.

Re: Going to Vegas, what should I do there?

I've read somewhere about an off-road school nearby. I'll try to locate the article. I'm sure your G/F would love it if you left her with a full day of free time so you could go riding on her B-day.

Indoor skydiving.
200 Convention Center Drive I believe.
It's about $50/person

Just came back from Vegas

If you have a little extra $ and want to go for a drink, go to the MGM's KnobHill. Try the "Will's Espresso Martini", it's named after the bartender there. It rocks.

Softly softly catchy monkey.

Re: Going to Vegas, what should I do there?

I can't stand Vegas.

The only thing that really amazed me, in that I've never seen anything like it and to this day I'm still in awe, is the Cirque Du Soleil show "O" (l'eau in places that understand French). It was... I have no words.

I did not get to tour outside the city but I'd love to motorcycle trip it up to the Hoover and/or out to the Canyon.

Things to avoid: Margarita's at Margaritaville

Do you know how to turn a man into a vegetable?
... First, you start with a Lion.

edit: I'll second the Venetian interior. I didn't like the casino's but the interior of the Venetian was . Oh yes, I also loved the sound and water show in front of the Belagio. that was cool.

No. You have not seen anything like it.

I've seen Cirque shows here in Toronto.
I've seen Cirque shows in Vegas.
I've seen their latest and greatest show in Vegas.
**NONE** and I mean NONE of them compare to "O".

"You ain't seen nothin' yet."

I had 2nd row seats, dead center. If you have to kill for similar seats, it'll be worth the time. GET GOOD SEATS or don't go. It's worth every expensive penny.

Re: Going to Vegas, what should I do there?

Go see 'Ka' at the MGM.

This is the best Cirque production I have seen, and I've seen almost all of them. Granted, I have not seen 'O', but you already have.

I plan to take my wife to Vegas this summer specifically to see 'Ka' because she was not with me on my last trip there for business. I'll try to see if we can see 'O' as well.

Have a great time, and let us know how it went for you both!
