California to Ohio.....routes?

Well in a couple weeks I'm going to be driving from L.A. back to Ohio and was wondering if anyone has taken either 40 or 70 and opinions on each route.

It seems 70 is more direct to Cincinnati but I know it goes through rougher terrain than 40.

Any opinions would be greatly appreciated.

I70 through Colorado is a fabulous and scenic route. There was bottleneck due to an avalanche but I believe it is long been fixed (and that section is very cool) Watch for Big Horns if you go that way and elk out on the western edge

Must obey the sheep dog

40 mirrors most of old Route 66 and if you like that sort of nostalgia (or new sights if you never traveled the original) then it's a nice run. Sort of boring at times, but pretty breathtaking in several parts.

I-10E to I-15N to I-40E to I-44E to I-70E to I-74E

Best route guaranteed.

It's amazing how stupid some people can be.

If you've never seen real mountains or been over a mountain pass that will take your breath away, take I70. From where I70 begins in Utah through Denver is pure mountain bliss. If you're not into that, don't take I70.

That was the exact route we were going to take if we took I40 but I've never driven or been through Colorado etc. I've done the AZ and NM thing before.

It's still a toss up....maybe we'll just plan it by year

Well I was born in the mountains and the mountains are part of me. I feel the happiest when I am near them. But the desert is so beautiful too.....arghhh. Maybe we'll take I40 to I25N and join up with I70 in Denver (get the best of both worlds)

Re: California to Ohio.....routes?

The only problem with that is that east of Denver is completely flat. Coming up I25 you'll be at the foot of some of the Rockies, but never really into them. There are some neat sights along I40, though.
