Re: HP cutting jobs

It figures. I just bought one of their computers.

But really, it's been a long time coming. They have historically been one of the best employers. I guess it's finally caught up with them.

Re: HP cutting jobs

Yep, they are going to have to get lean like everyone else.

It's too bad, they screwed up selling off their core competency: test equipment. And the margins are quite high on that stuff. Computing stuff has no margin and is falling from there.

It's really management that made the mistakes, but as usual, the working schmoes will pay for it.

Re: HP cutting jobs

HP has been in a tailspin for a couple years now. The best thing that ever happened to the instrument group (Agilent) was getting split off from the computer albatross.

Re: HP cutting jobs

I can't believe nobody mentioned the Compaq buyout as a major reason for their current dilemma.

I think they might be paying a little bit more to sponsor the Williams F1 team, but I could be mistaken.

I like you Sheep, but I'm driving to Alabama (or whatever redneck state you live in ) with a scowl on my face and a can of wooly-whoop-ass in the trunk if it's Lance Armstrong you're referring to as a "moron". (I'll allow a retraction... ) The "Livestrong" laptop isn't a tribute to Lance, or a pointless "just to have his name on it" thing. Not only does it raise money ($50 from each unit) for the Livestrong foundation, it also happens that the machine is no slouch. I'd put it up for whatever Powerbook you could get for even $500 more, for example.

P.S. Delaware has plenty of rednecks, too.

Moron was a generic term for celebrity types. Although I do admit that this is to enrich a good cause (vs enrich a moron) A better solution is to donate the money direct (and buy a Mac). And there is a spare room at shay sheep with or without can if you are down this way

Yes I got the one by someone with a wolf but only because it seemed like a deal. Likely the next (this winter) will be a white Aria Corsair, Shoei RF1000 or X11. $100 dollars for a name and paint is better spent on other things

That's funny...I thought "morons" was a generic term for "Mac users".

I'm just kidding. I'm generally in agreement with your broader point. I don't like the U2 iPod, for example (I don't like U2, though, so that's probably why). I don't buy racer-replica helmets, either. They're gay. And I mean that in a bad way. But in this case, Lance is the man, his story and his foundation is admirable, and I have no problem whatsoever with the Livestrong PC.

That said, I don't want to see the "Terri Schiavo pencil sharpener" or the "Ray Charles dish drainer" or the "Luther Vandross skateboard".
