I look different today!

A good friend of ours is going through Chemo right now for breast cancer. We (her husband, two of her sons and I) told her when she lost her hair, we would give her the pleasure of shaving our heads.

Well, yesterday morning, all hers dropped out in the shower, so last night was the shaving party. Armed with clippers, razors, several bottles of wine and lots of beer, we had a wing-ding in my back yard. I was the only one who got shaved because unfortunately, the ceremonies had to be called off due to darkness (we still sat and drank till almost midnight though).

Diane (the woman with cancer) had a freekin' blast. It was the most I've seen her laugh since last Christmas. Obviously, her and her family have been through some rough times lately so it was really nice to see her have such a laugh at someone else's expense.

EDIT:

Emerson, if you read this, your Dad will e-mail you some pictures.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh. Well, Diane's hubby was using my camera (not a digital ) to record the events, so as soon as I get the photo CD back, I'll be sure to post some.

Re: I look different today!

Newf. Best post of the week.
That is awesome.
Chemo is a devistating treatment and anything that takes their thoughts off it for even a minute is a blessing.
All the best to her getting through it.
For an added bonus you could take all the clipings and make a really horrible wig and give it to her as a joke.
When my brother was going through this my other brother as a joke Christmas present gathered all the dog hair up around the house and wraped it up with a bottle of glue. He got a good kick out of it.

Re: I look different today!

As long as you only shaved your head

Just kidding glad you could put a smile in someone's life that needs it, keep up the good work. Also I pray the laugh and joy is yet another thing that will aid in her being 100% cured soon

Re: I look different today!

My mother went through the same thing. She went to a person who specialized in wigs for people who are being treated for cancer. It was so good I found myself staring because I couldn't believe it wasn't her hair. Anyone she did not tell, never even knew she lost her hair. The guy was awsome.

Re: I look different today!

That brought a smile to my face and a tear to my eye. Great thing to have done! My Mom got a wig when she lost her hair from chemo treatments. As soon as it started falling out we went to a place that specialized in chemo patients so they could see what her hair color and style normally looked like. It was an excellent match! Then, she got herself a blond one for the summer!
I hope your friend tolerates the treatments and is cured.

Re: I look different today!

Don't think of it as shaving your head, but rather adding velcro to the inner liner of you helmet...if you don't know what I mean yet go for a ride and you will

Very nice of you Newf! A few of us were going to do the same for a friend that passed away a couple years ago when he first started chemo, but he changed his mind at the last minute.
