Re: Screw you Sony!

Well that is cool. Be a major suck if you were somewhere else, picked up a hot game, got home, only to find out you couldn't play it. Good for the courts on this one.

Why are they soo much more expensive down there? Price of shipping/import fees?

If you never try anything new, you'll miss out on many of life's great disappointments.

Re: Screw you Sony!

Once in a blue moon ... the legal system does seem to work. I heard his comment on the radio, it was a crack up. The question was along the line of "Doesn't this mean you can play pirated games" and he answered along the lines of (and he did say this) "Oh **** no! That'd be taking away money from software developers etc, people have a right to back up a copy of their game and be able to use it"

I reckon he's on the money. When you buy a game, you want to be able to copy it, then you don't care if you scratch it, the dog eats it, you can take it to your mates place and not have to worry about greasy pizza fingers and all that other stuff. Invariably, if you end up using the same CDs over and over again they start to get stuffed.

Apart from that, being able to order games from OS, 3 months prior to Aussie release, with a 50% plus discount on price is awesome.

I think it's just a case of profiteering, because they can. form my understanding, there is no "import" anyway, most games, and DVD's for that matter, are stamped locally. Most new games are now about Aus$110 (US$84). When was the last time any of you guys paid that for 2 games?

As an example, I bought KOTOR II for about $30 US (shipped) and had the game finished about a month befor elocal release.

Hopefully, these people will realise that the world is now a very small place, and they have to compete the world, and we are not a captive market.

Re: Screw you Sony!

Yeah, I brought home a Japanese PS2 lab hack after we were done messing with it.

I bought a couple of games while in Japan for it, and I was playing MotoGP 2 months before people in the US.

Re: Screw you Sony!

That is great that Australia actually found in favor of the consumer. Wish stuff like that would happen here. The licensing here for software and games is becoming ridiculus. And the courts continually side for the companies and rarely for the consumer.

Re: Screw you Sony!

The most interesting part is, this totally goes in the face of the Aus - US free trade agreement (which really isn't very free, but anyway...)

You do realize the issue that came up in Aus hasn't in the US as it isn't forbidden...right?

Re: Screw you Sony!

Bunch of Bullshit if you ask me... But of course quite a few things in Aus land are legal that are illegal everywhere else in the world. Maybe it isn't bullshit. I think I am having a rekindling of my want to move to Australia.

it's illegal as hell to have copied games here... producing, selling and owning the mod chips is perfectly legal but having copied games is just like copied dvds or cds. copyright infringment to the max.....

or were you referring to something else?

Re: Screw you Sony!

It is perfectly legal here to make a copy of your game, video, cd, etc. as long as you have the original to prove it's a backup.

If you think the Aussies made it legal to copy and distribute games, you're

It sounds like their laws now pretty closely match ours in regards to copyrights.

We certainly have laws that aren't consumer friendly (the new bankruptcy laws are a great example) but our copyright stuff is pretty much as good as it gets. Fair and equitable both ways.
