Brussels (as in Belgium, not the sprout)

Anyone been there?

I have all day Sat and Sun next weekend...and anytime I'm playing hookie from the conference to tour about.

Recommendations for stuff to do?

They're supposed to have the best beer and chocolate in the world there. (If the imported stuff I've had is any indication, it should live up to that)

Re: Brussels (as in Belgium, not the sprout)

The Belgian touring car series will be there that weekend. Interesting. Haven't made it to a motorsport event overseas yet...

Thanks Proto!

I prefer my horses to be made of aluminum and titanium.

I had a layover there once. The bed in the hotel was about 10 inches off the ground and my legs hung over from my knees.

Yeah, hotels in Europe can be "interesting". Especially if you're trying to spend less than $200/night.

I hear they import Budweiser there. So you like import beer?

As long as they don't hold it against me that my country made it, I won't hold it against them.

Re: Brussels (as in Belgium, not the sprout)

I would highly recommend the Straffe Hendrik brewery tour and the beer is amazing.

Here is a link to the address, hours, tour fees, etc. It's part of the Rick Steve's tour but on this one he got it right.

When I visited Hong Kong my wife and I went to a club w/ a high school friend of hers. My wife grew up there, but it was my first time there. Bartender asked me what I wanted, and without thinking I said "Budwiser". I like it! Then it stuck me, "Damn, you're not in Milwaukee anymore dummy!" It was no big deal, but I would have prefered to drink what the locals were drinking. It didn't cross my mind that Bud would have been an "import".

Re: Brussels (as in Belgium, not the sprout)

There's no real local drink in HK in my experience. I've probably drank more Guinness there than anything else.

"Ching-dow" is the main local Chinese beer. Not bad.
