Re: Crosswind landing

I'm just glad they were practising their skillz at an empty airport rather than the public streets.

They've been know to land on a highway or two.

Re: Crosswind landing

Yeah, crosswinds are fun, though I have never done anything near that... Seeing as how the Max crosswind component on the planes I fly is 12-15kts, I havent done ****.... Once in Illinois, we had a 32kt headwind on landing, wen we touoched down, we were stopped in about 50 feet, then the plane only wanted to turn into the wind which made taxiing interesting...

Sweet Vid!

Re: Crosswind landing

I'm used to this kind of extreme on the little turbo props into our "airport" which with the thermals and crosswinds can be quite fun...but have only been on one decent size jet that was crabbing in very noticeably but not to the extreme of a couple of these.

Ya, I've landed a few parachute canopies into wind that exceded the forward speed of the canopy, even putting it into a slight dive. Landing while flying backwards is pretty damn wierd

Re: Crosswind landing

My coworker said he has seen old military videos of B-52's (not the Love Shack kind) landing in crosswinds and they actually rotated the landing gear so that they could land the plane at that crooked angle. They would slow all the way to a stop with the gear like that before rotating it back to the forward position.

To the optimist, the glass is half full. To the pessimist, the glass is half empty. To the engineer, the glass is twice as big as it needs to be.

Re: Crosswind landing

It almost looked like the gears in the 777 were adjusting for the angle.
