Um, no.

Diet, diet, diet.

Adding alot of lean muscle mass in a relatively short period of time and getting cut are mutually exclusive endeavors for all but the most genetically gifted. So choose one or the other for now.

My suggestion? Put yourself in a slight calorie deficit; stay far, far away from sugars, starches and fried anything; modify your weight training for more of a moderate weight/higher rep routine; and yes, do some cardio, crunches and leg lifts.

Remember though, all the cardio in the world won't do your waistline any good if you eat pizza, ice cream, pasta and chips on a regular basis. Give yourself one cheat day a week, but really control your eating the other six days.

Re: Those of us with abs...

...combined with your resting metabolic rate of about 3,000 cal and anyone would have a shredded midsection, you freak of nature!

Edit: this is a compliment, FWIW.

Re: Those of us with abs...

diet is key, then crunches with weights. Concentrate on your ab when you work out. I see WAY too many people doing improper ab exercises, the flail around on the ground, ugly. Abs by far (for me) requires really good form to get any development.

Diet is everything for abs. I came close to 6 packs before, now I'm not as hardcore. I have a kickboxer friend that NEVER does crunches, but still has 6 packs b/c he's obsessive about food intake.

Be fast or be last.

Re: Those of us with abs...

Thanks guys! I will be able to take some things away from this for sure. In college I worked out ALL the time, and went from 150 to 190 in all mucle weight. I was pretty ripped - was being the key item. (6'0")

Now I have been a lazy guy that goes to work every day, behind a desk nice 209. It needs to stop. I have started my routine, but also my diet has changed. I am pretty, much pro protein - but I have also laid off on the chips, and fried crap (like chain pointed out). I think the key is to cut down the body fat. (or hang upside down like batman, or I mean abtech!)

I cannot stand the guys that just have abs and don't do sheit.

All and all I need to get my ass in gear.

My goal is 190.

Team Honda - well sorta...

I cannot stand the guys who work nothing but arms and have big ol' bellies.

For me, incline weighted crunches and leg lifts give the best results...or I should say did give the best results.

Re: Those of us with abs...

Oh totally - We have a few of those guys around.

The damn abs...I hate working them the most - i think that has always been my down fall with them. I do not condersider myself as being fat by any means, I just think I need to lean out - and that has to be done in order to see them I would think.

Re: Those of us with abs...

Some very good advice...diet is the key but don't starve...you will not get the results you want that way. I am back at the gym now myself after a brief hiatus(sp?) and it feels great, I am holding around 200 lbs still but composition is certainly changing I can't wait fo spring

What you eat and when you eat will yeild the biggest gains when combined with a good work out plan.

Canada post has came and gone, now they are coming again ...
